British tourist beaten to death outside Bangkok karaoke bar
Nick Weir was chased and assaulted by two bouncers who had previously denied him entry to a bar

A British tourist was allegedly beaten to death after being turned away from a karaoke bar while on holiday in Bangkok.

Nick Weir, 28, from Salisbury, died in the street after being chased down by two men on a motorbike.

He was said to have been behaving erratically before appearing at the karaoke bar in the Thai capital and trying to push his way inside.

Weir, the manager of a packaging company in Salisbury, Wiltshire, was allegedly kicked out before two male bouncers on a motorcycle chased him.

Police said that the two men attacked Weir in a nearby alleyway. CCTV footage appears to show the men pushing him to the ground and pinning him down, while he screams

An ambulance was called and paramedics performed CPR, but Weir was pronounced dead at the scene, approximately 200m from the bar in the Bangkok district of Bang Sue.

Lieutenant Colonel Apichai Hwanjit, deputy superintendent of the Bang Po station, said that two Thai men, named as Phurinat, 32, and Boonchou, 29, had been arrested over the incident.

He said: “According to the CCTV footage, the two of them together restrained the foreigner and they had a physical confrontation. During the scuffle, they pushed and wrestled, causing the foreigner to fall.
“We are unsure if there was any pressure applied during the fall that caused the death, so we are waiting for the forensic results.

“After he fell, the security guard nearby called the police. At the scene, the two individuals who fought with the foreigner remained there and did not flee”.

The CCTV footage shows that he was running in a straight line when he arrived at the bar and was not thought to be drunk, Apichai went on.

He said: “He was running, shouting and causing a commotion, but he wasn’t completely out of control. He ran in a straight line, not stumbling like someone who is drunk.

“He ran a long distance, nearly a kilometre, starting from the area near the Makro shop, crossing the Phibunsongkhram overpass, and reaching the karaoke bar.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Bangkok and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Weir, who was educated in Brussels before studying at the University of Leeds, worked as the manager of a packaging firm in Salisbury.

One of his friends, talking from the UK, told The Sun that they were shocked to hear of his death.

The friend said: “That was not in Nick’s character at all. He was so polite, the nicest guy. I can’t believe it. I can’t process this.

“I knew he was in Thailand. I messaged him yesterday but haven’t heard back from him.”

My thoughts are with his family and friends – I hope the authorities get to the bottom of what happened.
