Minivan to Bangkok

Post by buksida »

Just returned from a few days up-country and decided to use a different method to get to Bangkok. There is a minivan service that runs daily every 45 minutes from 5am to 8pm costing 140 baht.

It leaves from just past the traffic lights north of town, down the little soi next to the Honda dealer. The trip takes less than 2 and a half hours and the drop off point is Victory Monument - right on the Sky Train. You can pick them up in the same place for the return journey.

minivan to bangkok

Post by baron_wastelanduk »

sounds a sort of improvement on the bus - my last trip fromm BKK to HH was spent next to the toilet! and an incontinent old woman who insisted on leaving the door open which made the most awful piss smell! my guess is that the flush wasnt working

Yes the service is still running.

You pick them up at Victory Monument, leaving the BTS station, keep to the left and go down the flight of stairs on the hospital side. The vans are all queued up down the road that runs in front of the hospital. They run every 30 minutes or so, just turn up and get on, no booking required. I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for the return journey.

Just back from 6 wweeks in LOS, used the minibus BKK - HH and HH - BKK 3 times during stay, it is the obvious BEST way to make the trip  unless you have 2000 baht for a taxi ! Some of the drivers are Shumacher clones, but never really had any problems with the service.

If you have a suitcase you will have to buy an extra seat for it.
The last 2 times I've gone on it there has being the screeching brakes at some stag of the trip. Thats normal.

HOW BIG IS YOUR SUIT CASE ?

this usual if youve luggage which will not fit easily in the small luggage space inthe rear of the van you will pay for a seat
but how much is the fare to southern bus station from the center of BKK by taxi and how long does it take to get there or get bus 511 15 thb and 1 to 2 hours
and then how long does the big blue wreck take ,and are you any safer?
i think the time and cost outways its self
admitted some of the drivers are a little iratic to say the least ,ex lombard drivers ,in the long run it is cheaper and much much quicker
just do like the Thais do and fall asleep 2.5 hrs its a doddle

I'm in Hua Hin now, having taken the minibus service from Bangkok on Monday 2/14.

This service is excellent. Minibus was pretty new, very comfortable and the trip took exactly 2.5 hours.

It is a little difficult to find the starting place near Victory Monument. Basically there is a road in front of the hospital. As you are walking toward the Monument stay to the left and the road curves. Look for a small table on the left of the road where they are selling tickets.

I highly recommend this service as it is a great value, fast and comfortable.

What time does the last van leave HH?

Post by troopie »

 I am planning to go to Bangkok after work on a Thursday evening, so I'd like to know how late these vans leave. I was told 19.00 -- is that correct? & where do you pay -- on the bus?
Thanks!

You pay for the bus at a little desk wher the buses park. Best to go and check times. I believe that they have changed them recently.
