Post by PeteC »

BANGKOK, Sept 22 Asia Pulse - Most people in all walks of life support the coup d'etat staged by the Administrative Reform Council, according to a poll by Rajabhat Institute or Suan Dusit Poll.
The questionnaire on the coup found 83.98 per cent of Thais agreed with the power seizure.

Of this, 81.60 per cent are city residents and 86. 36 per cent are people in provincial areas.

They reasoned it would help ease a political tension and lead to positive political change.

Only 16.02 per cent disagreed with the coup with 18.40 per cent being city residents and 13.64 per cent people in provincial areas.

Those disagreeing with the coup said they felt it had damaged the country's image, undermined confidence, delayed the general election and hurt the economy.

Asked how the Thai politics would develop following the coup, 75.04 per cent with 72.8 per cent being city residents and 77.27 per cent people in provincial areas said they believed the situation would improve.

But 22.22 per cent with 20 per cent being city residents and 20.25 per cent people in rural areas said the Thai politics would remain unchanged as politicians are partisans interested in seeking their own interests.

Only 4.74 per cent, 7.20 per cent of city residents and 2.28 per cent of rural residents, believed the coup was either a political or economic setback.
