Day trips
Hi
Was just wondering if anyone could recommend any good tour companies or similar? Am off to Hua Hin in September, and would like to book some day trips to the River Kwai and elsewhere

Many of the tour companies offer the same sort of tours. Shop around when you get here. I like Western Tours & Ken Diamond, but others will have different preferences. You can also book taxis to go wherever you want, if you don't like being tied down to an itinerary.
If you like water, I'd heartily recommend Mermaid Cruises (they have a link from this site) Barry, the owner is a terrific guy, and their cruise to Sam Roi Yod on the Peacock is a lovely day. My mum & son also went on their eco-friendly tour of the mangrove swamps ( a lot of local wildlife can be seen) and thought it was a fantastic experience.

Actually chelsea it is only a couple of hours drive from HH, not that different really, and going from Bangkok you can run the risk of hitting heavy traffic getting out of the city. There are plenty of organised day trips that start early in HH that take in the floating market and River Kwai which are apparently pretty good; as Dawn says Western Tours is a good place to go.

I too have had good service from Western Tours, as well as the day trips they have given me good service for the likes of booking and changing airline tickets, which they do very efficiently for the small fee they charge.
P.S. Dawn, I have to re-read your post about quotes as I keep making a hash of it!

Take a night there. Some of us were up for the 60th anniversary of the bombing of the bridge, last November. We didn't know it at the time. Just went for a short holiday. A great atmosphere and one you won't find in many other places in Thailand.karrinahogan wrote:Thanks, I will def look out for these when we are in Hua Hin.
Definetely want to do the River Kwai tour, and a trip to Monkey Island
Decent bungalows come as cheap as 300-400 baht a night, right on the river. Perfectly acceptable, clean and close to centre of town. Just don't get one right on the river - the infernal floating karaoke bars will keep you awake. They're loud, believe me. There are other, posher places to stay, BTW.
Loads to see and explore. If you even spent one night, I bet you'll wish you'd stayed for longer.

Also, if you're in the least bit interested in the history, go to the cemeteries. The JEATH museum is good, and of course the bridge, but for me the most poignant part of my visit was wandering around the graves & seeing how beautifully tended they are & reading the inscriptions.
