Visa run

Post by lomuamart »

I've been thinking this evening about when I should go for my run. I've got a Non O multi-entry. The entry stamp expires on Jan 4th.
So, I was thinking, "go on the 4th, it's a Thursday", all the festivities are over and done with and travelling to Ranong shouldn't be too difficult.
However, we're into the month that all the 30 day runners (myself included before) will be scurrying around for real confirmation of the rules.
So, do people think that the busses etc will be jam-packed with frantic "runners", or am I best just going before Xmas? I don't want to be late on this visa!!
That also brings me to the many people I've met on visa runs over the years. No-one likes doing them, but sometimes you've got to. People, much older than me, who've been in Thailand a lot longer than me, speak the language and understand the customs better than me will still be in a precarious position now. On a pension, but it's not enough for retirement etc etc.
These people are not working. They're just having a "good time", spending what thay have here.
Good luck to them!!
And yes, they can go for a "proper" tourist visa now. I hope they do and are successful.
Some of them have been an enlightenment over the years as I've travelled the train to Sungai Kolok, been to Mae Sai, passed through Pedang Besar, Aranya, Nong Khai, Ranong etc etc.
Next month, these days will be over for a lot of good people. I hope it works out for them. I hope my conversations on the journey will be as enjoyable as they have been in the past.

I second that completely - a lovely post.

Those who are in a position and who can secure their stay because of wealth are sometimes to quick to judge others. There are many good people here who are not working and who are no threat to the Thai system but they simply don't have enough money to get the visa they need. In many cases they are more of an asset to Thailand than those with the right visas and I too wish each and every one of them the very best of luck.

Lovely post yjanks

A lovely post, in deed!

I also give my best wishes to those, which are affected by this crazy and useless visa-crackdown!

Money is not all; you need also the right "age" to get permission for a longer stay in this country.
Everybody who's independent enough (no kids, no wife etc.) doesn't need to be worried.
TH's neighbor-countries will welcome you and your money with open arms...and you can be sure to find a good and exciting life under similar or even better conditions than here. :thumb:

All other affected persons should actually send their life partners or spouses to the Immigration-Offices, and let them ask for financial support, because the foreign financier has to travel around now, or must even leave the country for 90 days.
But, may be the officials expect, that the "stupid Farangs" will support their gf's, spouses, kids from outside Thailand furthermore...as special "Thank you" for being so welcome? ... Who knows? :guns:

Unfortunately, I suppose those will be the totally "losers", which were rich enough to afford a good life without the need to work in TH and invested some money (i.e. Condo etc.), haven't any spouse or kids, and aren’t old enough.

Hopefully the officials will come back to sense someday.
We never should give up our hope, although it's Thailand!

If you forget Ranong and do Pedang Besar instead by train you will probably be able to book your seat now for the journey. Then you have no worries.

Return from Hua Hin to Hat Yai on second class sleeper, minibus from Hat Yai to the border and back on the train.

Around New Year though is definitely not the best time to travel. Two years ago my stamp ran out on 25th December. I persuaded the wife and the father in law that it would be better to get it over and done with from Ranong and leave Khao Lak early on the 25th to avoid overstay fines. That decision elevated me in many people's esteem.

PB's a possibility, but reckon I'll head down on the 3rd. If the Ranong bus is full, I'll be able to make it at least to Chumpon and can catch a minibus from there the next day.
