train crash
Jimmy,
One of my staff members tells me it happened just behind her place at Khao Takiab at about 4am. Northbound train from Prachuab was stationary, southbound Bangkok express went head on into it. She also reports "many" deaths and injuries.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Thailand's railways are mainly one track systems. The trains will stop at stations and certain areas to let the trains going to other directions to pass.

I was in a train accident in Thailand more than 15 years ago. I was travelling from Narathiwat to Hat Yai when the train derailed (or the five last cars) near Yala. I was in a car that fell off the tracks and ended sideway up. Luckily, I escaped with a few bruises and cuts. The positive thing here in Thailand is that the trains don't travel too fast (due to 1 meter wide gauge.) The train I was in was travelling at 80 km/h but only one person died in the accident. Another lucky thing was that the engine didn't derail. That probably saved many lives there.
I think if last night the trains speed had been more than it was, a lot of more people would have moved to the big cars in the sky.

Thai rail crash leaves three dead
Three people have been killed and about 70 injured in a collision between two trains in Thailand.
The collision happened before dawn to the south of the Thai capital, Bangkok, a railway official said.
A Bangkok-bound train took the wrong track and hit an oncoming service near the resort town of Hua Hin, the official said.
Hospital staff said two of the dead were railway employees, identified as a female train employee and an engineer.
The third person killed was not immediately identified.
Among the injured passengers were an Italian man and a German woman, both of whom were treated for minor injuries, rail official Wichai Choochumporn told the Associated Press.
One of the trains was waiting at Nongkae station at the time of the collision, Reuters reported, when the other train hit it head on. One of the trains appeared to be on the wrong line.
One train was bound for Bangkok, while the other train had left the city and was heading south.
