Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2007
Hua Hin Jazz Festival 2007
As usual nobody knows the dates for the Hua Hin jazz festival until about 2 weeks before the event. The "organizers" do nothing about promoting it and websites like HHAD get inundated with requests to either play in it or to confirm the dates.
The TAT official website states 8th - 10th June however as we know this could change. http://www.tatnews.org/events/events/2007/jun2007.asp
Any further information on this great event can be posted here.

Yep, frustrating isn't it!
With the assistance of local Thai tourism officials we have also contacted Heineken, The Hilton and the promoters "CM Organizer". The first two reaffirm what you have said and the latter didn't even reply.

If truth be told as much as I love music and appreciate a live act, the Hua Hin jazz festival lacks the intimacy good jazz needs and driving around looking for a parking spot for an hour, trecking down to a stage miles away, sweating hot and feeling crap when getting there only to find a load of people looking and acting like lost sheep and finding a booze ban because its not a certain time, does not fill me with excitement. I'd rather watch the band play at the Genie bar - maybe not as accomplished as some of the artists at the jazz festival, but at least a smile or two can be shared between musician and audience.

I agree with that Jockey Plus when you wanrt to get from one stage to another you have to get through the crowds of people for some didn't even know what JAzz is.
But I have to say it gets bareable when you watch the festival on the Beach stage just make sure you equip yourself with an Icebox filled your own set of drinks. be aware to have a few bottles of the Jazz Festivalls beverages in your Icebox they let you in.

Agree with Jockey on his points raised but I still enjoy the jazz festival. Yes the parking is a nightmare but isn't it always down town? The drink ban was absolutely bloody ridiculous so as suggested above I'll bring my own this year - stuff Heineken and the bureaucrats. As for the music bar in the soi I'll definitely take the jazz festival, less chance of bumping into some muscle head that wants to start a fight.
I've never failed to have a good time at the jazz fest.

I have enjoyed the last two Hua Hin Jazz Festivals and am looking forward to the next one.
The beach setting does provide its own rather special ambiance but tends to preclude one's wandering from stage to stage according to one's taste and inclination.
The main problem last year was that it was high tide during the evening performance. This meant that the audience were confined to a 'stage-width' area and the latecomers at both the Sofitel stage and the Hilton stage were standing back to back.
Let's hope that the organisers have consulted the tide tables for 2007.
Another gripe is that too many of the groups are of similar line-up(keyboards, guitar, soprano sax) playing the same style of music.
Having said that, I must extend a big thank you to the organisers for giving jazz fans a chance to have an entire week-end of their music for free.
We know it could be better but it's still bloody good!
I find that the best way to appreciate the festival is to decide which stage to be at, get there early, bag a good spot, bring your own alternative to the sponsor's brew, and then sit back to enjoy a wonderful evening of great music.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing! Roll on June!

Sad but probably trueseasides wrote: and if no heineken sponsorship forget the whole event.
another success of our purists on the top.

This probably explains why the official dates and press release has yet to come out six weeks before the event.
The flaky Heineken Thai website states the dates as being the 7th and 8th of June which is weird as its usually held over a weekend.

With the absence of any publicity and the current law controlling the advertising of alcoholic beverages, I too was beginning to doubt that there would be a jazz festival this year.
This morning I received this e-mail from Asia Pacific Brewery (the Heineken people) which is self-explanatory.
"The Hua Hin Jazz Festival will be held on 8-9 June, 2007.
The artist schedule will be shown on our website at heinekenthai.com
soon.
We are hoping that we will meet you there.
