Guest House Recomendations?

Post by duckhook »

Ladies & Gents.

A little advice for a newcomer would be much appreciated.

Planning first visit for myself and my wife. We dont like large hotels, and consequently are looking maybe for a guesthouse or similar. It doesn't have to be on the beach. Would like a pool to cool off in. We would enjoy a balcony, and are not on a desperately tight budget.

I wonder from this information whether any of you lovely people could make any recomendations.

There's a new place just by the beach. It used to be only a restaurant but has now a new extension with four or five floors of rooms. I haven't been inside the rooms, but the location is very nice

There is one guest house about 5 km north of down town but I don't know its name which fits your requirements quite well. If anybody knows the name and contact numbers, please put them here. If you are coming from BKK and turn to left just before Hin Nam Sai Suai and ride to the end of the road, it's there just by the beach. The beach itself isn't as nice as it is in front of Veranda.

Guest House Recommendations

Post by PeteB »

Hi,

If you don't mind being a little out of town, the White Sand may be worth considering. It's owned by a Scotsman (who is in the textile business), Richard, but run by Thai staff. Very friendly place.

Check out the link http://www.white-sand.com/

Should cost 80 Baht by taxi from clock tower in Hua Hin.

Good Luck

i've been visiting Hua Hin since 1986 and have witnessed all the development be it good or bad.....for many years i always stayed at the fulay hotel....small, family owned and operated with an excellent restaurant and right in the middle of town.....the only drawback is there is no swimming pool and the beach in hua hin has suffered with all the development.

I purchased a condo 18 km north of Hua Hin a few years back and find the beach there very very nice and quite deserted this time of year. There is a beautiful boutique hotel just up the beach from me....again family owned and with a pool. They have a web site at casapapaya.com.......There are plenty of small restaurants nearby and taxi to HH is 300 baht roundtrip or 200 to Cha Am which is only 5 km north. I would certainly recommend casapapaya if you want to be outside the hustle and bustle of the city :o

PeteB,

Have you any idea how long Richard has owned White Sands ? I used to stay there regularly when I lived in Bahrain up to a few years ago ...

There was a Thai lady (her name escapes me - Siriwan or similar I believe) and her kids that had the place then ... she was trying to sell up but there were problems with paperwork due to an estranged husband I am lead to believe, obviously sorted now ...

Shame as my friends in Bahrain were trying to buy the place ...

Hi Bangkokney,

No I'm afraid that I don't know how long he has owned it. He has a Thai wife, whose name I cannot remember.

The woman who seems to run the place on a day to day basis is called Pun. It struck me that this was not a very recent purchase.

I've not stayed there - we were in the Anantara - but we used to go there for a drink and we had a couple of evening meals (great value and very enjoyable). We will probably stay there next time we are in HH.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm sure someone on the board will know more.

Cheers

Re: Dan's posted site for casapapaya.com....
That gets me to a listing for a house to rent in Nosara Costa Rica, and although having been to Nosara (great beach) I was hoping to see what the Thai version looked like ! Could there be something missing from that site address?

Thanks
