Bob Woolmer

Post by lomuamart »

I'm sure most sport's fans around the world will be aware of this. However:http://sport.guardian.co.uk/cricketworl ... 73,00.html

Dreadful. I'm trying not to make any comments at the moment.

I can't copy/paste it correctly.
Seems like somebody got murdered for money at the Cricket World Cup.
Comments anyone?
I remember Bob Woolmer playing for England.
It's all out in the open now, as the news article will relate.

Massive coverage in the Times this morning, in the news and sports sections.

All the Pakistani players have now had to take DNA tests.

India surprisingly lost yesterday, so theres a good chance they could go out at the first hurdle (cricket world cup) along with Pakistan - I wonder what the odds on that happening are?

They had long meetings last week after his death to decide about cancelling the entire World Cup. They decided against doing that.

This story has been HOT, HOT on CNN and the BBC for the past several days now. No mention about "killed for money' though Lomu. Pakistan lost in the first round and the thinking seems to be that some mentally ill person blamed the coach for that. It's also evident to the police that he knew his murderer, so suspiicion goes back to someone on or close to the Pakistan team. We shall see. Pete

I’ve been having a field day with my Irish colleagues, who were so amazed that they actually beat Pakistan. I’ve been telling them that it’s obvious to me that the Irish team killed him to cover up the fact that Pakistan threw the game to make a killing at the bookmakers!

Pete, Ireland lost to the West Indies yesterday, if you don’t understand this sport you are not the only one: from yesterdays IHT, “And the notion that anyone would watch a game that, in its highest form, could take five days and still end in a draw provokes widespread disbelief among results-oriented Americansâ€

I'm sure all avenues are being explored, but I don't think anyone has considered Woolmer as being implicated in anything.

The reaction of the Pakistan cricket authorities is odd, they held a press conference about tHeir skiper resigning AFTER Woolmer was found dead, as if nothing had happened, I guess we can blame the culteral divide......?

The cricket fanatics in Pakistan burnt effigies of him in the street after their defeat to Ireland.

Unless it was a robbery by an unknown person that went wrong (unlikely), I think that what comes out of this will rock everything to do with the game and change it forever.

I do not know if u guys only got to hear about this today, but it happend the night after they lost to Ireland.

There was speculation at the start that he died from a heart attack, but in saying that could not explain the blood & vomit in the room.

They had an autopsy and could find no reason 4 his death. They then asked for further tests to be done and this is when all the other things came up.

Apparently he had a broken bone in his throat and I would imagine this is where things have taken the course to think that he has been murdered.

I think we all know how fanatical the asian countries are about their cricket.

Grag Chappel is the indian coach had effigies of him were burnt in India when they lost to Bangledesh, so can u imagine how the Paki's would have felt about loosing to Ireland.

That does not excuse what has happened in the least, but that is the mentality of the people that you are dealing with.
Life is cheap to them even if it it your major sport's coach.

From what I have heard, all the talk of what he was going to publish in his new book had nothing to do with match fixing (another romour floating about)

I think we should just let the cops make a descision on what has happend and then let the matter rest

The stories I have been hearing are that he was going to drop a bombshell in a book he was writing about match fixing. I believe he was going to step down after the World Cup from his role with Pakistan. It is a terrible shame for someone who was a great player for Kent and England, and by all accounts a world class coach. As JW says lets hope they catch the culprits and whoever they were working for, and throw the library at them..
