I need a good electrician.

Post by ozuncle »

We have a house but have not yet moved in.

We need:

1. To know whether we need single or two phase. And how many amps.

2. Someone we can trust to check out the wiring to make sure it is safe.
I am not going to use the property until it is checked and properly earthed.

If anyone can recomend someone I would appreciate it.

Thank you

The supply can be either single or 3 phase--not 2 phase. Normally for a house single phase is sufficient, you would only need 3 phase if you intend to run something big, like a bore pump or something.
The strange system they use in Thailand the "amps" refers to the capacity of the meter and mains supply: 15 amp, 20 amp 30 amp etc. Your need will depend on the load, so the number of aircons, pool pump, electric cooking range, etc. has to be looked at. If the wiring is already done and it does not include an earth conductor, then you are going to have a big problem to install one now. Some of the developers with farang managment are installing earthed systems, so maybe depends who the builder was.
To answer the question I do not know any good electricians, but there is another thread on here with some suggestions.
I would go and have a look for you myself, but I am in Bangkok at the moment with medical problems.

There is an ad in the Hua Hin observer by a qualified electlrian who also does alarm systems. The name given is Bob but he is Thai and is as good as you will find here. You can get a copy of that magazine and find his ad.

I have had dealings with Khun Bob, and I can not recommend him. But, you may be 100% correct when you say he is "as good as you can find here". There is another that runs an ad that is the wife of a lad moonlighting from another job, and although a very nice young couple, he does not seem to have any idea about how to figure out a job, and she cannot interpret technical expressions. It is a big problem, but there must be someone that has had some training. :?

Thanks everyone for info and PM's
Should be OK for now.
I am normally pretty handy around the house but from some of the experiences I have read about electricity in Thailand I dont feel very confident. Especially with Electric HWS in the shower recess!
Thanks again
