Black Mountain Golf Club

Post by JW »

Just thought I would give some feedback on this project.
Firstly - just some congratulations to those involved, this massive project was completed in about 18 months - anyone who saw it happening will appreciate the enormity of the task. It’s great for Hua Hin that an extremely successful business person had the foresight to carry it out here in Hua Hin.

The course itself is in beautiful condition - greens and fairways are top class - and the rough is savage! The course lacks a bit of definition - purely because the trees that line the holes are young and need to mature, in a few years it will be stunning. The par 3s are particularly good, the only criticism is that the 18th is (in my opinion) not a very good finishing hole - I don’t know what could be possible to give it some more character.
The course, again in my opinion, plays much better from either the blue or the gold tees – from the front tees you can’t really get a good picture of how the hole shapes up – really it’s just a prettier course from a little further back.

The clubhouse is a great facility, beautiful locker rooms, showers etc, great pro shop which is actually not expensive at all, good staff and the food is great – they have an extensive menu (in 5 languages) the kitchen is run by a Swedish guy and he is doing a top job, its honestly worth going just for a meal!

Anyone who hasn’t tried the course should do so as the green fee will go up in a few months – it will be expensive then.

Big thumbs up from me! :thumb:

tks for the feedback, sounds promising.

the facilities are huge - were you teeing off alone or are the flights booked well?

reason i ask: i dont think they can increase the green fees anytime soon ...

Hi seasides,

The facility is great, one of the best things is the 15 minute tee times - stops the course getting jammed up. It makes the course feel very peaceful. They have had a few busy days, and it will be a success. Pretty sure they will get away with the price increase in November when the tourists come - hope it doesnt mind!

those swedish owners - who had to ally themselves with some well known bangkokians - spent a lot of money, and face all the ownership hassles now ... they wont make money for quite some time even with a 6000 baht green fee ...

Black Mountain in high season

Post by Pundi64 »

They have a home here in Palm Hills, that cost 14 million baht to build, and are trying to sell it for 52 million baht, these two Swedes are really dreaming. :guns:

Dont really care about the owners - not my concern, they put fortunes into the project and I see it as a positive. Springfield are charging 4500 and they are full in high season - price is market driven, i do agree that if they go much higher it will have a negative effect eventually.

I'll tack this question on here, if you don't mind, rather than starting another thread.
An old school friend is arriving in HH for 2 days this Friday and Saturday. I've asked him if he's got any in particular he'd like to do - time is limited.
Anyway, he'd like to golf.
So, that's busted my budget for October already  , but can anyone give me some up to date news on local course conditions and prices?
Because of his arrival time in HH on Thurs night/Fri morning, I reckon Royal HH will be best for the Friday. However, on Saturday, we can probably get teed off a lot earlier and Springfield/Majestic/Lake View or Palm Hills spring to mind.
I havn't swung a gold club for a year and I'm not sure how good he is now - I used to play with him at school - but he's not going to be a beginner. Maybe off 18-24 or something.
Black Mountain sounds great, but it's definitely out of my price range, so that's why I'm thinking about the others.
Also, is it possible to call and reserve a tee time, particularly on the Saturday?
Thanks.

Thanks for that.
I know Palm Hills well and had heard that the condition had improved. Will probably go for that on Saturday.
