hassle!!

hi all,
is it too much hassle to get a bus from the south bus terminal to hua hin from bangkok airport,where is the bus station situated,in the city?if this is the case what would be the current price for a taxi?looking on this site would 2000-2500 baht be about right?.

The Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) is on Boromratchchonnani Road in the city. If you know Bangkok this is about 2 km the other side of the river from the Khao Sahn Road area. It’s a very chaotic place but the buses to Hua Hin are cheap and regular, and if you are used to Asian bus services it is no problem; but if you are not however, get a taxi!

Get yourself a Taxi to Sai Tai Mai (around 350 baht) buy a ticket (180 baht) and get on the Bus. They leave every half hour.

2500 tops for a Taxi down to Hua Hin.

I did this trip, airport to southern bus station to hua hin, recently and it turned out a very bad idea to even contemplate it.

On the day I did it there was only a bus every hour or so from the airport to the southern bus station. On arrival at the bus station I picked up a departing bus immediately. The journey on that bus to Hua Hin was nearly 4 hours.

To put it bluntly I was shattered when I got to Hua Hin. I had, of course, travelled all the way from Ireland. Nevertheless I wouldn't try that trip again. I was wanting to use the toilet for nearly two hours and of course there was no toilet on the bus. With the problem with language I was reluctant to even try and explain to the driver I needed to use the bathroom (none on the bus I was on). I ended up bursting when I got to the hotel. The first thing I had to do before checking in was to get rid of what I had been holdig onto for two hours. Not a very nice feeling.

The previous time I went to Hua Hin I stayed overnight in Bangkok, near Hua Lampoung Railway Station and took the train to Hua Hin next day. It too is a long slow trip but at least you had the advantage f having a toilet to use and of course I was refreshed after a nights sleep. Train departed at 09:20 and arrived in Hua Hin at about 13:20.

Taxi all the way from the airport would be one suggestion. Another way would be to fly. I think its about an hours flying. The airport in Hua Hin is about 15 to 20 minutes drive from the city centre. Or of course if you like trains you could do as I did last year and stay in Bangkok (depending on what time you get in at) and use the train the following day. There are other trains by the way.

Hamok, I to have experienced the Blue & White bus to Hua Hin. We were luckier than you, we actually had a toilet on the bus, but when you went round a corner the door flew oepn (not a pretty site). The day we took the bus was at 10am in the morning and about 38°c outside.

Once on the bus and travelling found that the A/C was about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. I had to put up with my GF (whose good idea this was) moaning for the 3hrs that it took to get to HH.

I vowed never to get on one again, and never have. Last time I got the minibus from Victory Monument (bit like F1 drivers), but got there in under 3hrs. Have always got taxis back to BKK at a cost of around 2000-2500 baht. A much better way to do it, the A/C always work and you can always make a stop for the rest room when you want

Back in the day before the minivans the old blue jalopy from Sai Dtai was the only option - a grueling 3-4 hour journey after you've done the hour in Bangkok traffic.

Would never do it again though and always favour the minivans now, just get a taxi to the nearest skytrain station and get over to Victory Monument where you can pick them up.

Of course if you're laden with luggage and only here for a couple of weeks grab a cab its only 40 quid!

Yes I was considering the mini bus from Victory Monument but at the time (see other forums) there was reprted problems with them versus the police.

I decided (very wrongly) not to go to Victory Monument but as I always say if I learn a lesson as a result of making a bad decision its not all bad. In other words I won't be planning it the same way next time.

Well I dont have a problem using the Buses, I just try and sleep through the journey and am able to go a few hours without using the toilet.
