Dr Thaksin invites you to be part of One City 27/07/2007 11:24

Dr Thaksin invites you to be part of our ONE CITY at a free concert in Albert Square to be staged after the Valencia game on Saturday August 4th.

Mai Charoenpura, one of Thailand’s most popular entertainers, will be singing live at the event, part of the ONE CITY initiative – MCFC’s commitment to celebrating the cultures and diversity of our city.

Sven-Goran Eriksson, several of the Blues’ first team squad and other special guests will drop in, delicious FREE Thai food will be cooked up on the spot and drinks will also be available.

The evening will follow in the footsteps of previous ONE CITY events, which have celebrated and embraced Manchester’s cultures and diversity. The event kicks off at 6.00pm, following the end of the Thomas Cook Trophy match against Valencia, and will finish at approximately 8.30pm.

Even if I was a Manc not likely, looks like another publicity stunt by Thaksin to get his face on the TV again. Bringing over Thai football players and popstars all in an effort to get more publicity back home. The man who treated us like cockroaches in his country for 6 years goes over to mine, buys a football team and throws big parties .....

Apologies for going a little off thread, but this post has clarified something for me.

2 weeks ago my wife went to a concert in Bath with a Thai Pop Star starring. I was wondering how he'd got in to the country and was touring. He had travelled down from Manchester. More than a coincidence methinks.

.
Yes he did but did he go after the big boys and did the 2500 get any type of fair hearing very very doubtfully and i would suspect the 2500 was a very conservative figure to the actual numbers

Thousands enjoy One City party 04/08/2007 23:44

Sven-Goran Eriksson and the City team joined thousands of people at Saturday night’s Thai-themed One City party in Manchester’s Albert Square.
The party, which followed City’s final pre-season friendly against Valencia, was thrown by new City Chairman Dr Thaksin Shinawatra and featured Frank Sinatra tribute singer Cole Page.

More than 5,000 people enjoyed the delicious Thai food given away free, and they were also entertained by Mai Charoenpura, one of Thailand’s most popular performers.

Dr Thaksin and Sven-Goran Eriksson both spoke to the crowd, and all of City’s recent new signings were also introduced to a great reception.
