Tax, Tax, and more Tax

Post by tigger »

Not been on the boards for a while as Dawn keeps closing me down.. Ha Ha .. only joking Dawn. Just thought I would throw this one open and see the response. I left Engand quite a few years ago after one night sitting down , checking my monthly salary slip and thinking.... Hey hang on. I have just paid my Tax and NI straight from my salary. This leaves me just to pay ........ my car tax, tax on my petrol, tax on my cigs, tax on my beer, tax on my gas, tax on my electricity, Council tax. Phew, would you believe there is even more!!!!!!!!! So why did you leave??????????

Ps. I am glad i did'nt have a BBQ

Your right mate.
The Uk is a civilised country because its residents pay a lot of tax.
But what do they do with all that tax the government collects?
They waste it.
I pay car tax.
Where does the money go.
Not on roads.
No theres not enough money for that.
So we may have to build toll roads.
And we will have to pay a toll on those.
Not so bad. but we will have to pay vat on them.
More tax.
It is accepted generally that tax in the UK was first introduced in 1800 and something to fight the French in some little war.
The war has finished. But the tax is still there.
However in truth we have always paid tax. ever since money was invented. And probaly before.
At one time we had a tax on windows.
So that's light taxed.
We have tax on cigarettes.
So that's air taxed. That may also include flight tax. (or is that movement tax?)
Everyones got land tax.
I don't see any tax on space travel.
So there we have it. Lets all get on space shuttles. Go into outer space and find a new planet and live there.
Lets name the planet tax.
At least we will know we we are starting.

lomuamart you are 100% correct in your reasoning and also a wise man to include your wife in there as well (just in case she reads the HHAD site).

People ask me why I have been to Thailand on holiday for the last 5 years and my 1st words are, find me somewhere I can get Heinikin for between 3-4 aussie dollars a bottle and I will go there, until then LOS will do me.
I also enjoy the people I have met while I have been to different places in Thailand, and that also make the trips very worthwhile.

On the original question, I waved the UK good bye for a 12month working holiday in Australia in 1981 and made my 1st return visit to the UK in January this year.

Have lived in Melboune for 10 years, Cairns 1 year Sydney 10 years and now been in Perth for the last 6.
One thing that done it 4 me was the weather. Is so nice not to have constant winter drizzle/rain and winters with snow, when every time u step out the door your feet get wet and cold.
