Will dig around and see if we still have the number of the fella we used. He was one of the larger contractors around. To raise one Rai (1 m) is going to cost you around 100,000 baht.

Sorry asked the wife and it's in her other book in our apartment in BKK. Won't be heading back there until Sept. 14-15 will try and get to you then.

From previous experience (I've had two fishing ponds dug and also had two other plots raised), Hobiecats' figure is about right.

However it much depends on the location of where you want to fill. The 10 wheel trucks that are used are gas guzzlers, and most contractors will only move the stuff short distances if possible.

Try enquiring with someone who may have done this close to your proposed location - you might get a good price.

Needless to say get a Thai person to do the negotiations - if YOU do it, it will be expensive.

Thanks for that lads!

I see what you mean Terry so I'll try that while I want for HC to get me that number!
Can I ask?
Are you saying digging costs the same as filling because I need some of that as well!

Depends what you want to do.

10 wheel trucks, 'Backhoes', JCB's or whatever are all expensive to run.

In my case I had 4 quotes ranging from THB40,00 to THB260,000 for shifting some 30,000 cu m of soil.

In the end I got someone who was in my frame of mind. i.e. I paid zero for the removal of the soil - since they were going to sell it on anyway and zero for a little bit of embankment construction (From my own soil).

soil is approx 750-1000 baht per load. depending on your location.and quality of soil.(this price will include a tractor to level off soil)

separately.

tractor is approx 550 per hour.

machine is approx 1000 per hour.

factors afffecting the price would be if you want a set price or not,or an hourly rate. distance to travel for loads. whetjher the guy is in a good mood or not.

where are you looking to do this i may have a contact.

Near the Queens project on the way to the waterfall( 5 K from sea ).
I also still need someone to take some jack fruit trees out .

Can I also take the opportunity to thank those of you who have responded to my various requests for information.
Boards like this one are invaluable to 'newbie' ex-pats here as we don't have to start from scratch !
I owe several people a beer i think!

120,000 Baht per Rai for 1 metre deep is what we get charged.
Was 70,000 when first came out.

100,000 Baht seems a good deal.

Land fill

Post by miked »

surely you don't fill all the land, just raise the ground for the house.?? at least then your garden floods and the house is o.k.
if everyone around you raises all the ground by say 1 metre all the land including the house will flood.
just a thought.

A few do that miked but I think the houses look odd raised up.

Trouble is if you dont raise it 1m and the people around you do, you'll be at the lowest point and may get their rainwater running into your land.

Houses by their foundations and ground level beam systems are always about a good 0.5m above grass level anyway.
