Aussie Rules RULES

Post by Perente »

Dave from Jungle Juice has warmed up his big screen, and is cooling the beers in preperation for next weekends Aussie Rules Grand Final.
With Geelong a chance to win their first Grand Final since 1963  , what could be a better sporting event to watch. 8)
Come on down to Jungle Juice and join in the fun from 10:30 am next Saturday, 29 Sep.
See you there.

Not enough choices in the poll, even my Oz friends call it "poof ball". Sorry.

Yes, I watched the semi final last night on cable ABC here (UBC doesn't carry I think) and it was a good match, came down to the final seconds.

All playoffs in all sports are good, usually very good. Watching AR frequently through the season though, it wasn't very exciting.

I'm still trying to figure out how they made that game up from Rugby as a base, and why?

As history, here on cable on the East gulf there is usually Rugby league on Friday night and AR on Saturday afternoon and night, with maybe another RL on Sunday. I guess due to the Rugby World Cup, RL is off for now, showing political commentary., Or maybe the season is over?

Unlike many on here, I enjoy watching Rugby League, different style but seems to me, more skill instead of brut force.

In any event, enjoy the AR finals. I'll watch if I can, ams sure it will be good. Pete

Pretentious name for a sport, especially as only the aussies play it!

Saw it at the Oval once or twice.

Boring.

Are you sure you have that the right way around? I am going to have to sit you down and give you a stern talking to next time I'm over.

Pete, Thanks for a sensible reply, and an attempt to appreciate sport for sports sake. I'm sure you'll enjoy the game on Saturday, pity you're on the other side of the Gulf and cann't join us at Jungle Juice. The game was developed from both Rugby and Gaelic Football, and occassional "friendlies" are played between Australia and Ireland using "International Rules", a round ball, a Gaelic Football field and a mixture of Gaelic football and Aussie Rules goals. Something to see in itself.
For the rest, it may interest some of you to know the the Geelong Football Club was founded in 1859, and is the second oldest registered club of any code of 'football' (and lets not get too far off topic by trying to debate what constitutes "football") in the world. They've had a terrific season, winning 18 out of 22 home and away games, finished on top of the ladder, their reserve team won last weekends Reserve Grand Final, and, as a fan who was 3 last time they won a Grand Final, I'm still nervous of their chances of winning this weekend.
So for everyone who appreciates sport at its highest level come on down to Jungle Juice this Saturday from 10:30am for a great game.

Perente,

I don't think the problem was the quality of reply, I believe it was the lack of choice/tunnel vision in the Poll questions asked ie

- The Poll assumes that everybody knows what Aussie Rules Football is.

- The Poll's options are biased towards people liking the sport.

- There was no room to place a negative answer.

I think that you have forced some people in to what you are classifying as nonsensical responses through your initial lack of options.

Personally, I like to place my vote in Polls regardless of whether I make a comment. Most Polls would have an option that I could sensibly choose, even if I knew very little about the subject matter. In this case, there was no sensible option for me, so I was not one of the 3 Poll respondents.
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

Some of my Irish colleagues used to play the International version with Australians in a league in Germany. I think it must be a very stressful sport because they used to drink a lot after the games!

Hi Guys, sorry if I managed to get anyone to take the poll at all seriously. I think we would all agree there are far too many sports to ever have agreement on which is "best" in any catagory. :D :thumb:

The point of the post....free advertising for Dave ( Congratulations to Dave and Jaeb by the way, a lovely little girl, Sara Beth, born Monday ).

If you have any interest in Aussie Rules, or just a fun day out, come on down to Jungle Juice this Saturday from 10:30 am for the live coverage of the Grand Final.

Dave will also provide some specials on the day;
Bacon, egg, sausage and cheese bagette, with a beer, for just 120 Baht, or a Standard Breakfast and a beer for 120 Baht.

See you there ( I'll be the nervous bloke in the Geelong T-shirt and cap )

PRCSCCT :- Yes rugby league is a lot more skillful and entertaining than 'kick and clap' RU. How many sports do you know where the main aim is to kick the ball OFF the field of play.

The RL league has finished with ST.Helens winning but they are now in the play offs leading to the grand final at Old Trafford on Oct 13th I think.

Friday 28th kick off UK 8pm is Saints v Leeds then Saturday kick off 7 pm is my team, Hull, v Wigan.

End of Oct and beginning of Nov is GB v NZ also.

Enjoy.

Australian Rules football was started around 150 years ago by cricketers trying to keep fit in the winter months. That is why it is played on an oval shape ground. It did not evolve from any other football code.

Perente, There will be no Four & Twenty gravy bags (aussie excuse for pies), how can it be a proper Aussie Rules day. Shame on you LOL

Seriously hope you have a great day, but think Port will win.

PS: Aerial Ping Pong is the only game in the world that you get a point for missing a shot.
They still have not mastered the idea that the ball has to go through the centre of the goal posts. So they decide to put two smaller posts either side of the main posts.
So if they miss the main goal, they get a consolation point for missing.
