Just a snippet about the first coverage I've seen this morning from the UK:

What I found interesting is that the 3rd and 4th placed parties were invited straight away to talk to The King's chief advisor.

Yes, ABT (anybody but toxin). Looks like they will try to cobble together a coalition to keep the toxics out of power. Interesting tmes ahead as the election may have solved nothing.

Gen. Prem? Certainly no love lost between G. Prem and Taksin ..

Why do you think that the Democrats (South) were so strongly favored in all the official rulings, disenfranchised parties, banned politicians, etc?

Looks like the media are the only winners in the short term.

There will be Plenty of horse trading and other shenannigans to keep them busy for a while.

The instability and division is very dis-heartening for everybody else

The election results only matter if the government is accepted by the Military and the Bangkok Elites who believe they have the absolute right to determine the future of Thailand.

Agreeing with seasidessurfer the understudy does.

But the particular Idea that the Future of Thailand will being determind by the Millitary and Bangkok Elites is one thing that really disturbs me.

Equally as disturbing is the premise that the future of Thailand is determined by the rural majority who have effectively re-elected Thaksin via a proxy party controlled by a political prehistoric snake called Samak.

The future for Thailand puts it squarely back into an agrarian state where the poor get further into debt and the politicians cream off the fat; education, technology, business and economic progression have no chance.

If thats what Thailand wants then thats what Thailand gets ... time for my predictions again:

Plans to set up a coalition government led by the People Power party (PPP) are hanging by a thread after the Supreme Court's Election Section agreed to rule on whether the PPP is a nominee of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party. The court has decided to consider all four points in a petition lodged by Democrat candidate Chaiwat Sinsuwong. The first hearing is scheduled for Jan 15.

Mr Chaiwat has accused the PPP of being a nominee of the TRT, which was dissolved last year by the Constitution Tribunal.

He has also demanded that advance votes on Dec 15-16 and the Dec 23 polls be nullified.

In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better if the election committee had ruled on who was eligible first, before the ballot sheets were printed, instead of after the results of the voting!

I say if you can't beat-em Join-em. Lots of bangkokians voted PPP not just the country bumpkins. Let them form a coalition.

Banning this party or its votes after the fact would be the wrong move.

My partner has told me this morning that there is going to be a re-vote in areas of Buriram, due to irregularities in the election. Iâ€™ve no idea whether this will mean that they will have to have another absentee voting session in Pranburi with an attendant alcohol ban.
It also means that I wasted my time driving over a thousand kmâ€™s to get her back for the last one on in December, and all for a measly 100 baht!
