Water can be a problem, it's ment to be ilegal to pump water straight from the street, all houses should have a well or a tank, I would say you would be ok if it holds around 3000 lts as some times the water can be off for a week.
Crime apart from a few cases last year is the lowest of any town in Thailand unprovoked attacks are very very rare, as anywhere in the world these days lock up and don't leave expensive stuff on show or outside at night, get to know the people in your street, estate and you will be fine.
Community spirit is something that is a little lacking.

I am just back from a 2 week stay in Hua Hin. I think it's a great place, walked most places and only ever saw smiling faces. No problems whatsoever.
Had some fantastic food at very affordable prices too. Just one thing - I didn't find a tuk-tuk driver who could read a map and my efforts at Thai were obviously not very good. Always got to where I wanted in the end though.
My only disappointment, found a taxi driver whose driving I liked and booked him for the airport journey (1500 Bht) but he turned up with a friend in a very nice Merc to take us instead. This guy was the worst driver EVER! I was convinced that we wouldn't get there at all, we weren't in a hurry but he jumped 2 red lights and broke every rule in my book. The most scared I have been for a long time.

We went through the same thing - We had used the same taxi driver most of the week as he waited outside of our hotel. So as he was so nice and helpful we decided to use the same company to take us up to Bangkok.gale wrote: My only disappointment, found a taxi driver whose driving I liked and booked him for the airport journey (1500 Bht) but he turned up with a friend in a very nice Merc to take us instead. Here's the journey - Three young men in the Van that came to pick us up - One got dropped off in Town so then there were two. We then received a phone call - my wife had left a draw full of clothes!! So the driver does a u-turn (at this stage we had not even got out of town) and as he is on his phone at the time - (one hand on the wheel) he manages to drive right into a car that was stopped in a queue - it was very plain that he could not get around with out hitting the car, but not to our driver! He scrapped the side of the van all over the rear bumper of the car leaving it very dented.
They pulled into a service station and took pictures and made phone calls and 20 minutes later we returned back to the hotel to pick up the left behind items. So back on the road out of town and then we stop the other guy gets out of the van, he has been told to take photos of the damage and meet the other driver with them. Our driver drove off and we were on our way.
The guy was constantly on the phone, driving one handed.
He then tried to get me to pay a toll - I told him it was all paid in advance, he did not even argue he was just trying it on.
Going into Bangkok he asked for the name of the Hotel we were going too. I told him and asked him if he knew where it was. Well he insisted he did (we did as we stayed there last year) well he drove around a bit got stuck in traffic for ages and then did a u-turn and got pulled over and given a ticket by the MIB, then he literally drove straight past our hotel - I screamed at him to stop and we just got out there on the street and dragged our bags back to the hotel having just left him there without a tip!
And be clear about this I always tip and tip well.
Disaster! We should have used the good people at Hua Hin Adventurer they organised our journey from Bangkok to Hua Hin and that went very smoothly, but NO I could save 200baht - pathetic
Sorry I know this was a crime thread but it had died 4 years ago!
