China

Post by Chas »

You would think that with all the problems China itself faces, a free Tibet and a free Taiwan would be something they would welcome!

I just dont get the jingoistic policy they espouse. . that a bigger China is a better China. (eventual world domination??)

It will make for an interesting Olympics for sure and you have to wonder what the Olympic officials were thinking when they awarded the contract to China in the first place. Had they in mind that China would change because of them? Perhaps. And perhaps it may work out for the better in the long run.

Hallo Y'all!

I have an Idea that would be another form of peaceful protest against the Ruling Ruking regime of China!. Lets give to all of the thousands of sports Journalists a few Shirts with the printing on front which read "Free Tibet" and on on the back "Free Taiwan" printed on. Plus to distribute those T - Shirts to hundred of thousends of Olympic Tourists and instruct them to wear those shirts @ the openning Ceremony of the Olympic Games and than to every other event of the Olympics, And the Journalists should wear those T - Shirts everytime when a Chinese Olympian wins a medal and held a Press Conference as a test of freedom of expression. As the chinese had guaranteed it will be upheld during the Games. What do y'all think of this controvercial Idea of mine?

Great idea but......

The athletes, to their shame, have all signed IOC gag orders that preclude their expressing any political view during ceremonies or press conferences. Loss of medals and potential bans are used as incentives to behave.

The USA and Team Britain were the amongst the first to sign.

Any journalist or spectator wearing such a shirt would probably be arrested / detained / deported.

As the TV feeds are controlled by China as the host country they would black out any incidents....they already do it to the BBC & CNN regularly.

The only legitimate way of protesting is to do what Steven Spielberg did and withdraw from the whole farce.

Again, the USA then Britain were the first to quash any hopes of a boycott no matter how bad things get in Tibet....image whats gonna happen when the Chinese run the torch through Lhasa.

In Germany, where sympathy for Tibet is more significant thanks to the government pro-Tibet stance, 90% of respondents to a survey said they thought Germany should withdraw from the games. The Govt said they were going no matter what the public said.

I just found the symmetry of the photos interesting....the wheel turns and all that.

Yes you do get it, Chas, jingoistic, Human leaders just cant help it. Bigger is always Better. Alexander the Great, had most of the "known world" at the time but just couldnt help himself and on to India, (with no trucks to carry his stuff). Napoleon had most of Europe but wanted Russia.

Hitler had most of Europe but wanted Russia.

George Bush had......and who the hell knows what he wanted.

You dont find many leaders in history who have consolidated their gains and retired to enjoy them. somebody help me here , there must be one example.

HHS
The devil made me do it the first time.
The second time I did it on my own.

When I finally got to the land of milk and honey, the milkman shot me

Happy wife, Happy life!
