Formula 1

Post by Vital Spark »

Just watched our recorded version of the F1 Grand Prix from Canada. All in all it was quite an exciting and interesting race (for a change).

Oh, deary, deary, me. What a mess up in the pit lane when Mr. super-hero Hamilton didn't see the red lights. BMW first and second, and David on the podium!! Goodness me he's starting to look like an old man, but, quite frankly, in the motor racing scene he is. The interviews were interesting; Robert Kubica, bless his cotton socks, sounded like a robot, and Nick (the quick) should get his beard shaved off. David saved the day by smiling, speaking well, and looking good.

For those of you who got bored with F1 when Michael was winning everything, give it another try. It's much more open this year - next race French Grand Prix (Magny Cours) - June 22nd.

Just read that Lewis Hamilton will be put back 10 places because of the 'lapse of concentration' in the pits in Canada. :?

Last 2 races have been great - plenty of action and overtaking - so pleased that Kubica has won - that guy is a true racer - to come back from the crash last year is incredible - 10 years ago he would not survived, to actually get back in the seat is testament to his true grit and racing blood. I dont think that DC was ever quite the same after his air crash - but he soldiers on and still brings great experience and character to the party.

Have been an F-1 fan for 20 years or so - mainly following Williams who still maintain an entry as a non 'works' team.

Have to admit that the 'Schumacher' years made it boring for me - the man was a truly superb driver but his arrogance and ability to caryy out unnecceassary cheating - and get away with it - almost put me off the sport.

I'm sure that this season has the makings of one of the best for a long, long time.

I dont gamble anyway - but it would be a hard choice right now to say WHO will get the title this year.

Bring it on.

P.S. - Still miss Murray Walker as a commentator - he should be brought out of retirement

You only get a real taste of the immense power of these cars by going to see them, the noise alone is frightening!! You also realize how bloody dangerous the sport is - these things are like missiles they accelerate like crazy but the braking is ridiculous!!

Went to Sepang this year and it cost about 40k plus spends for 4 nights - booked Singapore already - that should be a beauty!

Would agree with you JW on the 'atmosphere' at these events.

Attended two at Sepang, two in UK, one in France and even one of the American 'Indy' series in Vancouver the year befor Jaques Villneuve crossed the pond to drive for Williams.

The noise has to be experienced to be believed.

However - on the TV broadcasts at least you know what's going on - at the real event it is sometimes difficult to know - unless you strap a radio to your ears!

Singapore should be a great event - will be interesting to see how it shapes up.

I love going to a Grand Prix for the noise and excitement, but forget about knowing what's going on.

Parahandy and I went to the first F1 race at Sepang - it was a total disaster. We went to the practices and it took us so long to get to the circuit, and then back to our hotel, that we watched the actual race on a TV in a bar in KL! Otherwise we would have missed our train back to Thailand.

I used to work for a Ford dealership and had the privilege of going to Silverstone corporate style: lovely lunch with champagne, pre-race chat with one of the Ford sponsored drivers (Johnathan Palmer :| ) and good seats in the stand. That's the way to do it!

As a normal spectator you can't beat Brands Hatch. Went there in 1980 something and had a fantastic view of Paddock Bend from the inside of the circuit. I far prefer it, as a spectator circuit, to Silverstone.

I will be watching either at home or at the fishing lodge depending on whether the storm JD was talking about kicks in or not .The lodge is a great venue .Cold beer, great food and company and of course you can catch fish whilst you watch the race .Of course if you prefer catching crustaceans stick to the bars

Agree BaaBaa a lot of the time it is, but that was an awesome finish to a race tonight.
Nice one Lewis, cool as a cucumber

Piquet Jnr. from 17th on grid to finishing 2nd was real star performance of the day.

The best bit for me was seeing the union Jack (why the hell it isn't a George cross buddha only knows) and hearing the English National Anthem being played on German soil......

I thought it was pretty boring until the pace car came out and bunched them all up again. There are very few races now when the pace car doesn't come out. I know it's for safety reasons, but methinks it's to make the racing a bit more exciting.

Did anyone else think that Mr. Hamilton was being a tad over-aggressive with his overtaking? Thank goodness for the run-off areas, or there would've been some nasty crashes. When Michael used to drive like that he was slated by the press.

Great to see Nelson Piquet Jnr on the podium along with his compatriot. :)

Suppose I could have put this link on "Foo", but.....
I've been following the Mosley case with interest - ouch!! - and the words "medias res" grabbed my attention. I bet there were some squealers:
