Obviously stage managed for TV. In reality (certainly in the UK and States) the safety harness tends to fit the bigger of the 2 people. That tends to leave the small person as a very loose fit - especially when sat beside me 
Both my daughter and son have often complained at how I put them in danger. My retort was always, "You wanted a thrill ride - you just got a bigger thrill than anybody else!" I was such a caring parent . Can't wait for the grand children to get a little bigger
