Premierleague 08-09
New season is near, the teams are already playing friendlies and the transfer rumours are interesting to follow. However, the most amusing news so far is this:

As Chelsea are known at the Pensioners and have been for many years, I cannot see where the problem lies. Old Timers/Pensioners much the same meaning.
Must be some "PC Jobsworth" trying to justify a public service position that is probably not needed anymore.
I think that Sir Alex should look at his playing list, as I am sure he has many more players closer to collecting their pension than Chelsea have on their list.
Neville, Scholes, Giggs, Vand Der Sar, Saha, O'Shea, Silvestre all spring to mind.
And the biggest grumpy old bastard is the person who made the comment. Sir Alex himself.
Comments were not even worth printing, but then again is close season so need to fill the space with anything they can lay their hands on.

Always Borrow Money from a Pesimist. "They Never Expect it Back"
I think Slur Alex is a W****R but all he actually said was he wasnt sure how much Chelsea could actually improve given the age of the current starting 11.
Deco, Lampard, Ballack are 30+ and already at there peak.
He also said he expects them to challenge for the Title, that was somehow forgotten.
This gets taken out of context by the tabloid crap and becomes "Slur Alex calls Chelsea Old B*****Ds"
"Torres will leave Liverpool if they dont win title" was another Sun back page headline the other day, inside the paper was Ian Wrights bullshit opinion that Torres may leave. This somehow became fact.

This is the part of the interview where Chelsea are mentioned.
THERE have been changes at Chelsea again this summer. What do you make of the task facing Luiz Felipe Scolari?
I'm not concerned about Chelsea. Avram Grant did a good job and (Jose) Mourinho won the title two years in a row and beat us in the FA Cup Final.
So there's no-one who can improve on Mourinho's record really. It would have to go beyond Mourinho's performance to really worry us and that will be a challenge with the players they've got and the players they've added.
They've got a lot of experience and that was the one thing I was a bit concerned about in the Champions League Final. The likes of Michael Ballack had big-game experience. But I don't know how far that team has got to go now.
SCOLARI has never managed a club side in Europe, will that handicap him?
Scolari is fortunate. He is joining a big club and he is joining a team of internationals. But it's hard to see where there's going to be a big improvement with a team that's really very experienced already.
ARE you saying they have reached a plateau now?
Maybe. When you see the ages they've got it could be hard. Apart from Kalou and Obi. Ballack, for example, is 32.
They are an experienced side. I'm not saying necessarily that they're old because with the modern-day training methods, you should be playing in your 30s.
What I'm saying is that I don't see outstanding progress coming from a team that's in their 30s.
DO you know Scolari?
No, although we played against him when we won the World Championship. I don't think he speaks English, does he?
He has managed a lot of clubs, he is experienced and that's one thing he has in his favour. He has managed at the top, the World Cup team in Brazil and has managed Portugal.

Hmmm.....can you please remind everyone what intellectual Wengers team,Arsenal, have won in the last three seasons ??Arcadian wrote:This is just Ferguson being his usual self, trying to psyche out the new boy. He tried it with Arsene Wenger but he was too intellectual for Ferguson who eventually gave up trying mind games.

You´d better hope that, Richard as Halifax have seemed to disappear into the mists of obscurity.

fergie
would you like to offer a estimate on how well fergie would have performed on wengers budget for the past 3 years??Zidane wrote: Hmmm.....can you please remind everyone what intellectual Wengers team,Arsenal, have won in the last three seasons ??
Zidane
it's quite easy to buy success when you're able to spend 20 & 30 million a time on players & pay them 100-130 k a week

Re: fergie
So,out of Uniteds Champions League and Premiership winning team who cost more than 20m? I can only think of Wayne Rooney.redzonerocker wrote:would you like to offer a estimate on how well fergie would have performed on wengers budget for the past 3 years??Zidane wrote: Hmmm.....can you please remind everyone what intellectual Wengers team,Arsenal, have won in the last three seasons ??

then again, hargreaves, carrick, anderson & nani were the best part of 20 million each.
be honest, fergie has never been limited with a tight budget, the claims that chelski bought the league is a bit hypocritical considering the amount of money utd have spent over the years.
like i said, over the past 3 years, with the same budget as wenger, would he have been successful ??
