Absolute classic. Do the Irish need to bring the Blarney Stone?
Isn't it true, Guess?

It's true Lomu. All I have to do is go to the embassy and swear :cuss: under oath that I make a million dollars a month pension and they will give me an officially stamped letter saying it is true!

Of course my pension is not (quite  ) that much and I tell the truth and take proof, but they've never wanted to see the proof.

I wonder if anyone has ever been caught lying about it and what happened to them? :guns:

I agree, you only hear about the bad stories with reference to HH immigration, most of the time, if not all of the time, any problems are brought on by the pillock who is applying for the visa.
I have just re-newed our retirement visa for the third time and again a straight forward application with no problems or grief from the immigration staff.
The only additional paperwork they required, was a map of were we live, which I very roughly drew on a piece of A4 paper and they were happy with that.
Paid our 1900baht and we were out of there within about fifteen minutes.

Well that one fell on stony ground.

I was assuming it was true. That's what makes it so funny. The Irish reference was a joke and I am sure they are treated the same as any EU citizens.

Seriously I would think that the US still have some of the privileges that they earned at the end of WWII and the Vietnam war against communism.

Norseman.

I have to argue the point of Richard's "where is here" question. As it was written in the first person surely it should be Hua Hin according to his Location under the avatar or 1 leg in Yorkshire and 1 leg in Hua Hin if you refer to his signature.

Richard.

I thought my location under the avatar was clear making your question redundant. I will need to check.

I have never had problems at IM either but I sat next to a local well know English guy one day who was getting really upset at the officer because of something he had been told to do the last time. The attitude was just begging for bad service and problems.

I know of another case of a retired English guy who has had problems since he has been in Thailand (10 years). Every one of his problems were self made and compounded by his refusal to accept Thai culture.

My statement referring to where's here referred to the comments made regarding having a beer with Lomu to celebrate. 'Where's' here meant which BAR in HH

Both my legs have been firmly planted in HH for many years. Just a part of my brain and heart are in Yorks now :D

Only jesting Richard. So that makes 3 of you coming for the celebrations.

Glad to read that it is only your head and heart split between here and Yorkshire.

Its always good to hear of things going well.
How true that so many who have pompem bring it upon themselves.
Rules of thumb:
Be nice to
1) Cops
2) Immig officials
3) Tax man

All of them can ruin your day, and more.

Another good immigration story

Post by hhfarang »

Just got my annual non-im O A retirement renewal today (including multiple re-entry). I had done my homework and had all my paperwork in order and it took less than 30 minutes. The staff were nice, polite, and efficient.

Actually, I've had 5 annual visas now, the original at a Thai Embassy in the U.S., the first renewal at Soi Suan Phlu main immigration office in Bangkok, second renewal in Hua Hin when they were in the Police station and two renewals at the current Hua Hin office and I've never had a problem.

I always research on this forum and stop by the office a week ahead to see what, if any, requirements have changed, then go in dressed neatly and treat the officers with respect and it is always returned.

I renewed using annual pension income and here's all I needed:

For the Retirement renewal

1) TM7 form filled out
2) 1 copy of my passport - photo page, every stamped page, and the attached immigration departure card.
3) 1 4x6 photo
4) Certificate letter from the U.S. Embassy stating the amount of my monthly pension.
5) A copy of my Yellow Book (house registration)
6) A hand drawn map of where my house is
7) 1,900 Baht fee

For the Multiple Re-Entry stamp

1) TM8 form filled out
2) 1 copy of my passport - photo page, every stamped page, and the attached immigration departure card.
3) 1 4x6 photo
4) 3,800 Baht fee

Other than that I had to produce the original of my passport and house registration for verification and that was it! Easy as drinkin' a cold Heineken on a hot Thai afternoon. :thumb:

I place of the hand drawn map will they accept a google snapshot or a printed map of HH duly marked?

Anybody tried it?
