I think that the penalty to Hamiltion was justified, he seemed to get quite an edge when he straight-lined the chicane. I do, however, think that the FIA are probably more interested in making the F1 Championship more exciting than it actually is. Perhaps I'm just being a bit cynical...

I'd recommend watching the practice sessions the day before the race (Saturday) - they're often more exciting than the actual race.

Being a die-hard fan I still watch all the races, but I have to admit to being distracted (mid-race) by more important things like ironing, feeding Rubble and plucking my eyebrows.

:) No, it's not. Rubble's our darling dog, who actually (we think) got spat at by a Spitting Cobra last night. Five hours of partial sight, rubbing of eyes and general discomfort. He got lots of TLC from me whilst Mr.VS cooked the evening nosh - I loathe cooking.

Nothing to do with F1, but just be aware that of the three Cobra species that live in Thailand, two of them are Spitting Cobras. Better than a bite, but not nice.

:offtopic: Next weekend it's Monza. You can guess who really wants to do well there...

Monza gave one of the best races for a long time - Vettel was awesome - no idea where his pace came from but it was there for all to see. Some great driving from Hamilton mingled with some quite erratic moments.
Fantastic day for F1 - one of my favourites ever - so great to see a young guy drive the knackers of his car all the way no backing off.

On the Hamilton note - its interesting how non of the drivers backed him over the penalty at Spa - and his driving, which is absolutely electric at times does still show some imaturity. He could end up being pretty unpopular (sure he wont care if he is winning!!) around the paddock - he might end mates agin with Alonso!

Funniest comment from the pit radio yesterday was too Alonso with about 10 laps to go - " Great job Fernando, your in 4th, keep pushing and watch those guys behind you " Sating the obvious or what... super funny.

Next race in Singapore giving a 60% chance of rain - better take my brolly!

What is interesting for me is that apparently the F1 authorities had to issue a clarification of the rule that Hamilton had been punished under before Monza, which indicates to me that Hamilton didn't break the rule as it stood; I fail to see why, if you have been forced to take emergency avoiding action (as he did last week) why he has to wait until the bend after next to resume racing, after allowing the other car back in front? There's no safety issue and what Hamilton did seemed fair to me; I'll bet if it was Schumaker he would have got away with it! Hamilton is obviously an extremely gifted and nerveless driver, a real racer, so i think the other drivers are being a bit petty, and it does also seem that the FIA have some sort of problem with McLaren the way they have been dealing with them the last few seasons.

The rule hasnt changed they are just making all aware of it, his move at Spa gave him clear advantage, watch a rerun and its easy to see.

He is super talented and puts in some breathtaking performances but he does have a trait for being reckless - actually great for racing as something exciting is always on the cards!

Absolutely right JW. If there had been a wall there, then he would have either smacked into it (highly unlikely), or he would have had to brake damned hard to get round the chicane. Either way he would not have been in the position to overtake. The safe run-offs do minimise accidents, but the young guns should realise that they're not to be used to gain an advantage. Hamilton definitely had more momentum before the next corner (as he didn't have to brake so hard) and that gave him an unfair advantage.

Is it me, or was Hamilton driving like an idiot on Sunday? Twice (or maybe three times) he tried to 'muscle off' someone he was trying to overtake - quite unnecessarily in my mind. It added a bit of excitement to the race, but in the end it's not good racemanship (if there is such a word :? ).

Absolutely right RC: just like a banana skin - Whoops! Sorry old chap, I just kind of slid into you. Didn't really mean to bump wheels with you, it's the weather you see. Slightly damp and a tad slippery....(team made a c**k up and gave me the wrong tyres).

Hi VS,

I agree Hamilton was driving like a loonball - his racecraft was right on the edge - you can guarantee it will have been spoken about behind closed doors. Its something that racers take very seriously as its their lives on the line, its such a fine line between balls out racing and keeping safe.
His mid race pace was trully awesome though, it was great to see.

The Kimi/Massa question is an good one - while Kimi has a chance of winning team orders will probably not come in to play - it will be part of his contract.

BTW - do the commentators on UBC annoy everyone else as much as me, i always try and watch where i can get the feed from South Africa where you can listen to Martin Brundle and Tony Allen actually describe whats going on/strategy before it happens etc as opposed to the numtpys from Hong Kong who clearly havnet got a clue! RANT OVER!!

I agree with you 100%, especially re that brainless female! It reminds me of a comment I once heard in Oz; "it is good to see that the channel`s employment policy caters for the mentally impaired"! :cuss: :guns:
