The reason for my asking is the numerous posts that state immigration now requires you to be on a yellow book/blue book/rental agreement for renewing visa extensions.

You do not need one for immigration.
They help with certain things but most people don't bother getting them. If you can get one easy enough then why not.

I'm with you elem, don't know what you need it for and have never been ask for one. We have a blue book but they would not put our name in it? Near as I can tell it has no value at all. Perhaps a source of income for someone?

This thread is starting to go the same way as the Thai driving licence: "why would I need one", "no one has asked me for one", etc.

The legal advice that I was given is that IF you own a Condo, and live in it, then you are "supposed" to have a yellow Tabien Baan book.
Some of the reasons that it "could" be useful are: proof of address for various government departments, such as Land Transport for a driving licence / registration, Bank Accounts and such things.

It has been also pointed out on other forums that both the requirement to get one, and the acceptance of one for useful purposes, is a bit like the Immigration Dept, whereby different department officers have their own interpretation of what is acceptable and what is not.

Apologies for repeating the original question

Has anyone got a yellow book recently and what documents did they need?

Was a trip to BKK required or is it possible to do all in HH at the teesabahan?

I currently have an old Blue Book (Tabien Baan) which did have my Ex girlfreinds name in it but this has now been cancelled. No new name there now. Tried to put my Thai Co into it but this was rejected.

As the Blue book shows my address do I really need the yellow Book?

Any feed back would be mostly appreacited.

Have you been to a solicitor yet Lippy, as the questions you are still asking are way off base.
Pay some money and see a solicitor, asking advice from un-informed people over the internet will not help you.

Hi SJ

I understand what your saying.

I was just trying to find out if anyone had got the yellow book recently and what documents were required and process? My current legal advisor appears to making the process complicated!

I will be seeing a new solicitor in Jan who can hopefully action this for me!

Regards

Lippy

Yellow book

Post by IHF »

Took advice from here, sent the Thai wife to tessabaan with my passport,
No yellow book,

you need letter from embassy confirming your identity, passport, and other documents before your name is added to a yellow book, I knew this already but thought things had changed, so another wasted morning.

This is second or 3rd time, people have posted wrong info,
please don't give people the run around if you don't know. :(

Thought as much, had got a full description from solicitor of what was required, posted it in this thread, then removed it again as below:

Removed content as from what HHFarang and Sarge have said it is far easier than a solicitor suggested to me.

It may well have worked like that for Sargeant in 1852, but regulations and documentary requirements change like the weather.

Go see Chavalit and Finch solicitors in Soi 19, they'll sort it out for you.

Wanted a simple lease from them, they quotes over 40k baht plus tax etc, etc takes several weeks!! also the advice they gave me was wrong.

emailed one of the most expensive lawyers in Bangkok, 5k all in, takes 2 days.

They are only legal partners, not full solicitors or lawyers so beware.

There is usually at least 3 'Thai Licenced Lawyers' in the Hua Hin office and about 30 in Bangkok, the one's from Bangkok come down as and when required. They charged us 40k for a full lease, in Thai and English with all the non-standard add-on clauses, which was similar price to other firms, obviously there are some that are chepaer.

If you've found a good cheaper lawyer in Bangkok then get them to sort your Yellow Book out, saves all the aggro and run-arounds we sometimes get.

Good luck,

SJ

yellow book

Post by IHF »

Why use a lawyer anyway when the Yellow book is FREE!!!

only need to get a letter from Embassy 1,900 baht can do by post.

The price to do any lease from any Thai or Farang law firm is a set price of 6k baht.
just check the classifieds in Bangkok Post.

Another case of Farangs ripping Farangs off in Hua Hin. :cuss:

I was done - I didn't realise the yellow book was free, mine cost 10 baht!!!

I applied for my book 3 years ago, and at that time a letter from the local police was sufficent as proof of residence. I also needed a certified copy of my passport details in Thai, but that may not be required if you have the letter from the Embassy.

It takes about 20 minutes to process, in the Tessabahn office.
