I cannot believe what I am hearing from Thaksin.
This man has been convicted of corruption and the main reason all of this is happening and he goes on camera blaming the failure of the rule of law when the rule of law has got him fleeing his home land. I he having a laugh or what???
I honestly feel sorry for all the tourists as they are the innocent ones and hopefully they will be out of the cross fire.
The government SHOULD stand down for the terrible way this has been handled and seeming like they are watching from the shadows, gutless.

All good points Steve, this is pretty much how I see it panning out also.STEVE G wrote: And having a coup all by yourself in Bangkok could just lead to a dangerously divided nation.
The nation is pretty much divided anyway and has been for several years, you can thank Thaksin personally for that. I think the civil war scenario could be dangerously close.
If Thaksin and the government win the PAD will not stop, they will grow in support and financially making them even more powerful and dangerous than they are now.
If the government are disbanded and PAD get their way the red-shirted mob will start their own protests with Thaksin's backing.
The only solution is, as someone said above, dissolution of both sides, banishment from all political activities, and bring on some fresh faces. We need a political party that can support the whole country, not just pander to the easy half.

I have been on hold with cathay pacific in Hong Kong for 1hour and 40 mins and on skype for 30 mins. the phone lines in Thailand are busy and from what I can work out they are not diverting flights from BKK to other airports in Thailand... SO who knows maybe I will be stranded in Hongkong!
My travel agent is keeping to the line that BKK will reopen today at 6pm unless I have missed something it does not look like BKK is going to be open this week...
has anyone got any information about flights from HK to BKK going to alternitive airports?

Yippy I spoke to an agent at Cathay pacific who informed me that flights to bkk are on schedule for tomorrow!! But when pushed did say the flight to the airbase were organised by the Thai government to get people home and where leaving Hong Kong empty.
He also said that if I wanted to transfer to the Phuket flight I would have to do this at customer services when I arrive in Hong Kong, and if this was not possible then I would be under the protection of the Hong Kong airport and they would make my stay as comfortable as possible while I wait!

OK,Thaksin is corrupt. He should probably be jailed. But the poor, concentrated in the north, got more actual benefits from his government than any government before, and will continue to vote for his proxies because of this. Untill other parties look after them in the same way, they wpuld be fools to vote for the (equally corrupt, perhaps) old elites. Talk of bribes for votes is not as important to voting intentions as it was in the past.

(BangkokPost.com) – Police who set up security checkpoints at Suvarnabhumi airport were overran by a handful of protesters led by the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) on Saturday morning.
The PAD mobilised more yellow-clad protesters to drive the police out of the airport. The protesters destroyed police vehicles, including inmate trucks, and blockaded the motorway to Suvarnabhumi.
After the Emergency Decree was enforced in Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, police were deployed to the motorway and set up security checkpoints to stop more demonstrators from entering Suvarnabhumi. However, the operation fell short as the police could not resist the anti-government raid.
Besides, the protesters were able to take back their knives and rods seized by the authorities earlier.
