The BBC reported yesterday that the yellows had caused no damage to the airport...

I want to go be with my daddy and I dont want to take a 2 day train from KL!! So please dont give the red side any ideas about taking over the airport, and please dont make me think there is any chance that i wont be able to land in BKK on the 4th. If the cargo flights are departing I am thinking there may be a chance.....

they need to get the airport up and running asap and sooooo there is a maybe for the 4th...

if it is not open... anyone fancy driving down to KL and giving me a lift to Cha-am, would save me from getting the train :)

Kelly, who are you flying with? Some airlines are operating out of other Thai airports.

cathay P. But have already checked with them and KL is my best bet... only prob is it lands at 7pm and the train to the leaves at 8pm or a slow train at 10pm. so think i will have a night in KL, only these 2 trains a day (as far as i can work out) then there is a long wait at padang or butterworth before the first train leaves around 0600 and arrives at Hua hin at around 0200...

has anyone done this trip before and if so am i being really daft and have I got it wrong??? also any advice on where to stay in KL?

It may not be the PAD that causes delays now. As Steve has pointed out, the Airport has to meet technical requirements first. Also, at least one airline has reportedly said that they will not fly their aircraft into Thailand any time soon.

Flights 'to resume' at Bangkok airport
2nd December 2008, 18:06 WST

Anti-government demonstrators have agreed to allow flights to resume from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi international airport after a week-long blockade, a protest leader says.

"As of this moment the PAD (People's Alliance for Democracy) has allowed flights to take off and land immediately, both passenger and cargo flights," senior alliance member Somkiat Pongpaiboon said on Tuesday.

A poster on T-UK yesterday reported that his flight with an Arabic airline from the UK to Bangers, scheduled for the 12th, has been cancelled.

PAD agrees with AOT to resume services at Suvarnabhumi, but rally to continue

The People's Alliance for Democracy Tuesday agreed in principle to cooperate with the Airports of Thailand Plc to reopen services at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport but the PAD will not end its demonstration there.

The agreement was announced at 3:30 pm by Somkiart Pongpaibool, a PAD leader and Vudhibhandhu Vichairatana, chairman of the AOT board of directors, following their meeting.

Somkiart announced that the PAD would allow flights to resume at the Bangkok international airport after AOT technical officials check technical readiness of all systems.

He said a joint committee between the PAD and AOT board would inspect assets in the airport and would open gateways for passengers to use the airports for arrival and departures.

Somkiart said the PAD would allocate a zone for its demonstration to continue without affecting the passengers.

Vudhibhandhu said the board would cooperate with the PAD to check the readiness of the systems and would try to resume services within 24 hours.

He said the AOT board would try to make the systems of the airport ready in line with international standard.

(BangkokPost.com) - The People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) on Tuesday accepted the Airports of Thailand (AOT)’s demand to allow incoming flights to use Suvarnabhumi airport after the Constitution Court dissolved the People Power, Chart Thai and Matchimathipataya parties on charges of electoral fraud.

The first incoming flight to the international airport is expected to be within 24 hours.

Is the airport to be open in 24 hours for all traffic?

I can see that cargo could come in but I think the CAA ( or some other body ) has to do a total security check, before permitting airlines to carry passengers, and this could take quite a few days?

"Full operations" won't be back to normal until 6pm December 15, accordingly to the AOT.

CNN have just reported the same thing, it will take until the 15th to get back to full operations.
