Good performance by Liverpool today against, what seemed, a very jaded Manchester United team. Well played to them, and an enjoyable game to watch too.

But I do think that 4 points clear (potentially 7 with a game in hand) the title will once again end up at Old Trafford.

4-1 in there own back yard. :thumb:

What a thrashing, absolutely owned in there own ground.

Hopefully this will put the myth to bed that Utd have been given by the press.

Thrashed at Old Scaffold, very average side!

Uniteds defence was shocking....O'Shea and Evra poor and Vidic had a stinker.
The midfield was overrun.....United lacked a holding player like Hargreaves.Carrick is a luxury player who tends to disappear when the going gets tough.
Ronaldo, again on the periphary of things without getting involved much.
Everytime Liverpool ran at the midfield or defence of United they struggled. This could well cost them in the Champions League.
But United have been getting the results this season without playing particularily well.....missing the influence of Queiroz,I think.
Hopefully this result will give United the kick up the backside they need if they want to attain more success this season.
Its just a shame Torres never came to Old Trafford a season or two back.I'd willingly swap him for Ronaldo at the moment.

"There's been a murder." Really detective Taggart, sorry, Sir Alex.

Image (That's Taggart BTW if you're :? )

Also a crappy result for Villa last night, could've gone 4th. Martin O'Neill will be fuming, especially about the second half.

Villa seem to have had problems winning at Villa Park this season for some reason, not so much on the road, and I bet Villa Park was packed last night, big stadium.

However, having said that Villa have done well this season and do deserve their title as "Best of the rest". Martin O'Neill is a good manager IMO, can't be easy working under "Deadly Doug" who doesn't usually like to spend too much amongst other things like how he got his nick-name.

spitfire,
I didn't think Doug Ellis was involved in the running of Villa any more? Didn't he move into a non executive position when Randy Lerner bought the club?

Not sure WL, maybe, but I bet he still has a load of shares, can't see him relinquishing all say in the club. However, could be wrong there.

If so, hands-ups. :o

Wikipedia says...
On 14 August 2006, it was confirmed that Randy Lerner, owner of the Cleveland Browns and native Ohioan had reached an agreement of GB£62.6 million with Aston Villa for a takeover of the club. A statement released on 25 August to the LSE announced that Lerner had secured 59.69% of Villa shares, making him the majority shareholder. He also appointed himself Chairman of the club. In Ellis's last year in charge Villa lost GB£8.2m before tax, compared with a GB£3m profit the previous year, and income had fallen from GB£51.6m to GB£49m. Randy Lerner took full control on 18 September as he had 89.69% of the share. On 19 September 2006, Aston Villa plc executive Chairman Doug Ellis and his board resigned to be replaced with a new board headed by Lerner.

Quite a list of suits from the US, just goes to show the infiltration of money-men in football now, just big business/fashion, not a lot of passion.

If he's "lifetime President" now then that title pretty much equates him to a position such as "Queen of England". Not going to be making too many decisions within a board like that, top-heavy with US CEO types.

Villa must have been one of the last Premiership clubs to go down the inevitable path then.

Nice one for the Wiki quote.

Villa were very poor against Spurs, really very limited in all areas and if the form guide continues I can see Everton overtaking them.

They've got nice little trips to Anfield and Old Trafford coming up next.

As suspected Ferguson did not attend the post match press conference. I believe there is a helpline for Man U fans, 080 414141.
Arsenal seem to have benefited most from the weekend results as I cannot see Liverpool or Chelsea catching Man U.

& then a home game with everton.
they are performing better away from home though, i think it suits their counter attacking game better.
in the premiership, only stoke & west brom have worse home records than villa

hope they get turned over at anfield & get a result at OT  , that will certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons :D
