walking distance or taxi
April market takes place every April. (You asked for that!)
Seriously though, its a night market lasting for a week, and has stalls selling everything. Furniture, pot, pans, household stuff, crafts, clothes etc and funfair rides and food stalls. Very good prices, and if you buy big items which need to be delivered they usually do it straight away.
It was on Naebkerhardt Rd but moved, so I don't know where it will be this year, but no doubt the advertising banners will appear next month.

Unfortunately I understand it will again be on Naebkehard Road. Local businesses (restaurants etc) lose money and the local inhabitants are seriously inconvenienced. There is a live music concert every night and the noise level and vibration is dangerous. We could not enter our soi off Naebhehard Road until after midnight because the entrance was blocked by parked motorcycles. We asked for a help from the police and were told there was nothing they could do.margaretcarnes wrote:April market takes place every April. (You asked for that!)

Local Thai residents petitioned the Governor and received no acknowledgement.

We had a property at the bottom of Naebkhehard Road and it was a real pain, they parked a kiddies ride, right outside our gate, and my car was blocked in for the duration.
Apart from that we enjoyed it, and our little niece thought it was fun to have a fairground parked outside for a week.
I found the best shorts I have ever bought, in the April market.
I thought it was called the Red Cross Market.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

I would start at Big Kiang on the beach side of the main track going north from HH. To me it is walking distance but you can take one of the green song tau local buses? for 10b. They go to both the airport and Ko Takiab. No HH taxis for me they will take you for every baht they think you can pay.
Big Kiang have a reasonable range of furnature and appliances and good prices that are negotiable, most places will deliver so no need to put that frige on the motorcy. There are also places on the other side of the railway line heading up to the mountain.
If you want to go to Cha Am go on one of the orange buses, they are slow and give you a chance to look around and make note of any furnature shop you pass.

There are 4 good furniture stores between sois 114 and 116 just after the flyover going south, not walking distance from town though, you would have to take a taxi, but it may be worth it depending on what you are looking for.
First, the store mentioned in the previous post, Big Kiang, opened a second store a while back which is a huge furniture outlet on the corner of Soi 112 and Petchkasem road (west side). It has great deals, and the best selection of outdoor furniture I've seen.
Further along on the same side there is Asian Living, an older establishment that deals mostly in wood items made locally.
A bit further on the opposite side of Petchkasem (east side) there is an excellent wooden furnishings store that will design and make to order (they also have a big showroom of pre-made stuff). This place is an outlet of one of the biggest furniture manufacturers in Bangkok. They even do custom built in furniture like kitchens and closets. The place is called Orientally.
Just a bit south of that on the same side as Orientally is Wolfe furniture and accessories. This is mostly imports and expensive items but mostly very high quality and hard to find elsewhere.
All of these are located within less than a half kilo of each other so once you get to the area they are all within walking distance of one another.
