trolling

Post by LAnative »

I have been accused of trolling on this forum by those fearful of strangers. Has ANYONE considered the fact that I just may LOVE the fact that I am able to communicate with others from different cultures and nationalities half way around the world and learn their expressions and slangs ? I think this is SO AWESOME! What other time in the history of mankind is this possible?
So to those who hate me and give me derogatory labels and humilating names I say" the Boogie man doesn't exist, I am NOT the Boogie man. Flinging insults at me like monkeys in a cage flinging feces to scare off intruders will not work! My love of leaning new things is stronger than your small town fear of outsiders.
That said, I really DO enjoy reading these entries. It seems that everyone is in the same boat everywhere, and that no matter the nationality we are not that different.

I personally think many have gone out of their way to help and advise you but you won't know until you come there for an extended period of time.

Maybe try being non combative and inquisitive in a way that allows you to learn genuinely about a place you have considered retiring to from those that already live there and understand that many have extensive experience of the area, trust me. That's a good idea, I don't live in HH and have learnt from people on this forum about HH without upsetting too many people. It has been most enjoyable as everyone has something to contribute. I can contribute about where I reside as and when the subject arises, that can only benefit the forum in general.

It's a community, not a place to spout bollocks and show insecurity. The reaction to you has been mild, trust me, compared to "other" information portals.

When I first joined, I was not in HH and am not now, I didn't know anyone but just loved the place etc etc. You just have to approach this in the right way and things will progress in the right direction. The 'guns blazing', combative/belligerent/overly opinionated approach is not a good idea, never works in any situation.

It is worth remebering that you are talking to a lot of people that have spent a lot of time here, which you haven't.

Just being observational, nothing personal. I will say no more as have said more than enough on this subject on various threads.

You really know how to endear yourself to people, that is an insult to everybody in Hua Hin, come in with guns firing and you will get flack back.
If you criticise you will get people who will not like what you say. I know I have done it but only if I truly believe the other person or people are talking rubbish IMO.

combativeness

Post by LAnative »

Spitfire- You don't live in HH? What is your interest in this forum?
I was only interested in the real life experiences of those who lived there, innocently walking into an ambush. I had no clue of what I was in for. Naive'!
I only get combative in response to insults. Those who fear actual feelings in themselves tend to ridicule them in others. This is my first experience in any kind of "forum"(chatroom in the US) so had NO idea that people were were so vicious and mean. I guess this is their outlet but I didn't know that and was shocked and taken aback. Now I know better.
Thanks for your advice and not "piling on".

If you look and listen on the forum, you will find that there are a fair few who don't live in HH but have an affinity with the town and visit for holidays etc because they like the vibe/pace etc or intend to retire/live/work there or in the surrounding area in the future. I am one of these but still listen to the residents as they are there now and it can do nothing other than benefit me to be involved before I eventually move.

I think you'll find the Boogie man no longer exists, in fact he died last Thursday.

On the other hand, the Bogeyman is everywhere.

But LAnative is not far from Honolulu Jimmy?

BTW, what's brown and found in daipers?

Spitfire- It was my intention from day one to do precisely what you mention, listen to RESIDENTS to gain their knowledge and experience on HH before deciding whether to retire there or not. I got so many CONFLICTING facts, many from NON-RESIDENTS, that I repeated my questions. This unleashed a firestorm of insults. Expressing insecurities really ticked them off as well inviting those with their own insecurities to divert attention onto someone else's. I just wanted to eat lunch at the popular kids' table.
Lindosfan1-Really? you were insulted by that part of what I wrote? I was told I needed a "thick skin" to live there but apparently others are highly sensitive. Being the brash American I am coming from a city and county approaching 10 million residents from literally all over the planet, yes I do consider a population of 75K a small town. And my experience visiting small towns all over the West, strangers are regarded with hostility and suspicion. Many are physically assaulted, especially if you actually move there and become the "new kid on the block".
Perhaps you just don't like the way Americans express themselves. We tend to be less formal and polite here, mostly because we are pressed for time and standards of politeness vary due to the WIDE range of ethnic groups here. A comment like mine here wouldn't even register on the insult scale. My suggestion is whenever you see my name on an entry, ignore it and don't read it. It wasn't my intention to insult anyone.
Apologies to the hyper sensitive.

Here's a thread that ran for 5 months which indicates members of HHAD who live in HH 6 months a year or longer are pretty close in number to those who don't. Pete

Can someone find the man a girlfriend(or boyfriend or maybe both since he's from California) so that he has something else to do besides trolling on this board?

As usual getting all excited over nothing. I merely kept all possibilities opened and California is a lot more liberal that say Utah or Arkansas when it comes to sexuality.

If you think it insulting then so be it. Couldn't care less which way you're swinging, I only hope you get a life...

Hey give the man a break and he is right on that one. We had a geat 4th of July BBQ over here. Thai women, farang men, and mixed kids. Watched the fire works and bands from the Capital in DC on HDTV -- pretty spectacular on a big screen. I was talking to the guy next to me who was from the DC area. He said boy you didn't see diversity like what we were seeing on TV when he grew up. We looked around and kind of laughed again. We were surrounded by diversity as we were watching diversity.

So be gentle on LAN-DQ, be brings a unique point of view to this forum to say the least.

Thanks Hans - That was ALL I was trying to do and I hoped to make some friends in the process. Both failed.

And communicate you have... nearly 100 posts in under 2 weeks... going for the record, or just bored with a lot of empty alone time on your hands (like me? )?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
