M/F Culure effects ratio?? - How
Which comes out at almost exactly 1.06 to 1 Steve. Very strange. Oh well - like many other things Thai I guess we must just accept what is writt!
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
Thank you Mags for answering HHADf s well presented well thought out post.
While we have both discussed this at length we don’t agree on any of the 5 questions in entirety mainly because although I have my thoughts (not beliefs) I am not totally convinced on any single one of them. Which is why I have asked for input?
As for the ratio our figures don’t match except on Friday at our last therapissed session which SMan failed (modus Operandi I think) to attend we were sat in our normal restaurant (17 tables 8 covers per table when 3 double deck bus loads turned up ONE table all male One table four males one table three males maybe another 7/8 males and all the rest women every seat filled. I will let the reader work out that ratio the staff were 4 women and one (HHADf said gay I agreed) but I insisted it counted as male. Last night I asked 6 farang males and they whilst I visited the gents came up with 2 girls to 1 boy
Mags the young girl old man thing is nothing to do with farang I know many much older Thai men with much younger women my next door neighbors house I counted 1 to 1 because his mere noy 26 years old only stays 4 days a week he is 53 and his niece who is 18 counts as the 1 because she lives there permanent (to quote the film Pretty woman “they never are my dear”)
Steve I am grateful for your link I started looking at them and got to public service employees and according to them for 3 quarters from 4th quarter 2001 they on average took a pay cut of 800 baht a month each I muttered horse shit under my breath and carried on I then scared all the soi dogs the pregnant woman up the street 2 cats and a cow by screaming horse shit at the top of my lungs national unemployment rate for 2nd quarter 2006 1.7% the highest rate on the table 4.8% come on gimme a break
As I say the statistics don’t match what my eyes actually see and the accurate ratio imbalance isn’t in the least important what matters is how does it affect Thai thinking.
The answers that HHADf , Mags and SM have given are probably very likely and I would in the short term agree with them BUT 3/4/5 generations down the line I think the UK would see more brothels girlie bars mere noys and young girls marrying older men and thinking in the UK becoming more similar with LOS if only on this front
Question 2 yes I think this is one of the major forces in ANY culture
Question 3 I am not sure because to me all politicians are interested in is power and greed and probably give little or no thought to anything else, expecting them to actually THINK is probably 3 steps further than reality
Question 4 the same but LOS would go the same way as the UK (god forbid)
Question 5 I always stop and ask myself if anything I know about Thai culture is the reason for some of the most bizarre behavior I have ever seen and always ask myself why what how (This theory works on a surprising number of occasions)if nothing else it gives me a breathing space before I let my western cultural instincts and way of thinking kick in (it also allows me to temper my decision making)

'Why what how' is always a good one for allowing a bit of calming down time Sarge! Particularly useful in LOS where often - or maybe always - they have perfectly logical reasons for doing things the way they do.
(My favourite is leaving the cobwebs up there to catch mozzies. Unfortunately I struggle to justify it in the UK.)
Oh well - next trip I'll be armed with a notepad for jotting down stats.

We went to a Monk blessing on Thursday, the male female ratio was 14 to 1 in favour of the Thai ladies. 3 Men 42 girls.
Us guys didn't stand a chance.
The noise was deafening, when that lot got jabbering.
Mags All cobwebs in Thai houses are classed as "nature projects.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
Thanks for responding Mags and khundon 1975
Heres one for the Statistic believers surf your webs and post how many Thais live in your own or other countries try and get a male female ratio for the in excess of 56,000 that were REGISTERED with the Thai consulate London in 1996 note the word registered i wouldnt want to confuse things with the factual number
If you cannot find a ratio do me a favour and have a guesstimate
I am expecting silence by the way
