Photos of Old Hua Hin

Post by Big Boy »

I really enjoy looking at photos of old Hua Hin. I know that we have a couple of threads on here already featuring a few old photos (can't find them  ), and we also have 14 photos donated by another member in the photo section http://photos.huahinafterdark.com/main. ... temId=2254.

It has been some time since this was last discussed, and our membership has increased significantly since.

I thought it would be worth asking if anybody had any new photos of old Hua Hin or surrounding areas, which they would be prepared to share with the rest of us. If possible, it would be nice to know where and approximately when they were taken, so that the magnitude of change can be assessed.

Here is the original one:

Still a good topic to regenerate though as new members may have some old photos.

Would anyone be interested in another HHAD photo competition while we're at it? There must have been a few snaps taken over the holiday period.

Thanks for those old links buksi - I spent ages looking for them yesterday. It really keeps me amused for ages looking at those old photos, and comparing them to the current day.

Surely some of you (relatively) new comers to the forum have something to contribute to keep an old anorack happy ...... please :D . Hows about you Don - you've been around for a long time?

I have lots of old Hua Hin photos; the only problem being is it seems every photo has at least one person in them. I have tried to digitally remove, but until now no success.

Yes, I think we all have that problem tarakandi. I think its an unconcious way that we try to personalise our photo albums.

Could you maybe just black out the distiguishing features? I'd really like to see some of your photos.

It was the thread on Satukarn Square that got me thinking, as I have a couple of photos with the old Hua Hin Power plant in the background which was on the spot where Hau Hin Mall is today.

That would be fantastic! When you say Hua Hin Mall, I assume you are talking about that huge shop next to Satukarn Square. Do you know what year they were taken?

Is there no interest in Buksi's offer of another Photo competition yet? In the same way as I like to see old Hua Hin, I'm also interested in upto date Hua Hin. Its nearly 2 years since I trod the streets of Hua Hin - it'll possibly highlight any changes that I've missed.

Busy or not, somebody must have taken a half decent photo since the last competition eg what about entering a photo of the King's Birthday lights that I've heard so much about?

I've seen a very old post card of Hua Hin beach, from at least fifty years back, that shows hardly a single building from the railway hotel (Sofitel) to Khao Takiap and the amazing thing is that the sea is still full of Thai kids playing in tyre inner tubes exactly like today!

I said I would try to find some more of my old photos after posting the one's re-displayed in this thread but didn't get round to it.

Some of them are on Slides - I have now got a scanner that will 'digitise' them so will try to get round to it after getting back to Blighty.

I was walking round the piers etc. yesterday - it has changed alot.

Glad you enjoyed thre photo's anyway

Best regards

Sorry BB  Though I did pass through in the mid 80's I was not carrying a camera. Pity as the place was so different then, if you blinked you would have missed it.

All my recent (2000 onwards) are mainly of the family, the farm, or the houses, plus the usual pics of temples etc which have been posted on the web by many others.
I did mention in an earlier thread that an Englishman came into our coffee shop in 2001 who worked for National Geographic and was also on a commission from the King.

He showed me some pics of the place he took in the early 70's which showed just a few huts where the Hilton is now. I wish I had a scanner at the time so I could have copied them.

He had been taking pics here for over 30 years so there must be a record of them somewhere, either in Nat Geo files or perhaps in the Royal archive.

If you have time on your hands it may be fun to search for them.

I will now go to the back of the class, for being so lazy and laid back in the 80's.

I thought you would be a dead cert. What on earth could you have been doing if you weren't taking photos
