maybe I was dropped on my head whilst a baby but I seem to be "odd" cos when I was growing up and paying homage to the TV I wanted to be David Attenborough, David Bellamy or John Pilger. Its because of them I became so interested in science, history and archaeology, current affairs, world politics, etc.

22 braindead blokes kicking a pigskin about or some sad sack soap actors were the LAST on my list of potential role models.

But when your TV only gives your kids role models that are all amoral poseur mysoginistic twats with dumb haircuts or screaming/simpering brainless overmade bitches in poof poof dresses spliced with heavy doses of product placement and government propoganda what the hell sort of country do you expect? Is it a surprise your average Thai kid cant point to Thailand on a globe when there are no educational programs? Is it a surprise that the average dirt farmer cant define what democracy is when they never learn about anything except Thailand?

Not really.

Thai tv is only a few rungs below Ausrtalian tv...ive complained to my partner about the rubbish she sits me through.....i recall many a night on my last BKK stay..i wasnt up to going out in the evenings...she left me in the lounge room of our hotel room curled up on bed and watched that stuff till bed time, and actualy seemed to enjoy it
I cant see the diferance of a thai soap or an aussie soap crap still looks the same to me, as for plastic thai male actors....have a look at a few aussies actors....just the eyes are differant :duck:

Christ b/r I don't know what you watch - we have Dr Who in Melb - now there's a role model!! He wouldn't try to defy gravity by falling out of a helicopter coz he's got the Tardis!
With respect to soaps I have to agree - a world wide failure in entertainment along with reality shows made for those that don't or who can't think.
PS try watching the Footy show - yes you do get the occasional "clown" like Sam Newman dressing up in a too too but not the general plethora of cross dressing wimps that seem to attract so much adoration and air time in LOS or their androgynous cohorts.
There is something not quite right in the LOS with the over exposure of this behavioral deviation (my words). I'm sure there must be a psychological reason for it but it does reinforce s/m 's hypothesis on role models! So much positive reinforcement has the opposite effect on me - seems to work with a bulk of the population however.
Spoke to a 14 year old Thai kid about Ao Manao as being an important site and occupies a unique place in Thai history. Was NOT even aware that Thailand had ever been invaded by the Japs. Maybe we need role models like those blokes who took on the Japs. Now that would be a good TV series even if it only lasted 24 hours.
