Political Correctness

Post by Terry »

Just got this truly superb definition of being P.C.

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Me too if I could afford the meat and beer, and understand everything they said!

I would have agreed with you SM about Oz being a choice to settle down in, until Mr.VS and I spent a few weeks there three years ago.

Loved the country, and the people - hated the strict rules and regs.

Regulations everywhere. Stayed with a friend on Coochie Mudlo, a small island off the coast of Brisbane. He couldn't let his dog off the lead, even on a deserted beach, couldn't park his car where he wanted, restrictions and regulations all over the place. I found it difficult to find a place where I could have a ciggy, and the friendly Aussies were complaining about all the rules and regs. It was quite an eye opener.

Stayed down in Somers in Victoria for a week. Beautiful scenery, lovely people, but couldn't buy a beer in town. :( It reminded us of Pleasantville in a quirky, spooky kind of way.

We found Oz even more restricting than the UK (and that's saying something!) which surprised us somewhat. :?

As an (old) Aussie I would have to agree with you 100%, VS. Some of the petty rules and regulations are an insult to peoples intelligence. Without being rasicst I have to wonder just how much of it has been bought about by the very diverse migrant population that we now have in Oz. This is not to say that the Migrants are to blame, just possibly a consequence.

Here's one:

And yet, most certainly, emotionally retarded…

Isn't socialism great? Lets all cheer for SOCIALISM and take away everybody's rights except for the 'elite ruling class' and lets force everyone to conform and accept POLITICAL CORRECTNESS.
We can solve all of the problems in the world if we all just learn to love each other, IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE. LOL

Well, judging from some posts on this thread, I think I'll steer well clear of OZ, given that I am not one for rules and regulations. In fact, the lack of them in Thailand is the reason why I chose to live here. The last time I went to South Africa the country was going the same way as the UK and etc, in that there seems to be rules for everything, and judging from the high crime rate there, the rules are obviously failing miserably.

Thanks for the original post Terry, it really does sum it up nicely. It seems to me it's only white skinned westerners that have bought into the whole "political correctness" thing. Perhaps I'm wrong, but until I see otherwise, I'll go on believing that, and BTW, this is not intended as a racist comment.

I guess maybe this should be in the ''Weird'' thread....... but then again it's got to be another marked down to the Nutter PC Brigade.......... tw@ts

No marriage for Bert and Ernie, says Sesame Street

There have long been whispers, but Sesame Street has finally addressed the rumours: Bert and Ernie are best friends, but that does not mean they are gay.

While that statement may yet be open to interpretation, one thing is certain. The pair will not be getting married, producers of the long-running children's TV show made clear yesterday.

The statement came in response to a growing online campaign and petition to have the two puppets get married as a way to beat homophobia and encourage tolerance of gay people.

Almost 9,000 people have signed a petition encouraging the wedding at www.change.org. Many have also joined special "Bert and Ernie Get Married" Facebook page, sparking a lively debate on Twitter and other social media.

Bert, who is fascinated by pigeons and gets easily upset; and oval-headed, free spirit Ernie, have lived together at 123 Sesame Street since 1969. They share a bedroom, but sleep in single beds.

Sesame Workshop, the educational workship behind the 40-year-old educational show, claimed that as puppets, Bert and Ernie do not have sexual preferences.
