I would't mind an indicative breakdown of monthly costs, if that is not too personal.

Well, it's not a big secret...I use Lomu's listing:

Rent 5000
Bills 4000
H/hold, food 5000
ent/ment 10k-15k

It's very seldom, that I must cross my self sedated limit of max. 30k.
If I have to do so, it just has to do with "entertainment" or unpredictable repairing in my car.

Interesting to know. I'm trying to figure out how much I'll be spending in HH.
It's a small world after all...

5,000 for rent??
Wow ... that's rather low isn't it?
What kind of Accomodation can you get for that in HuaHin?

I'm curious because I was quoted 35k for a 3 bedroom house with no backyard... :?

In my eyes about 5,000 Baht/month is the normal rent for a townhouse without furniture.
In my case I've a 2-storey townhouse, with 2 sleeping-rooms (one with air-con), living room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms (shower/toilet).
My townhouse is placed in the city-center near San Paolo Hospital.
I rent also a 2nd house in the same street under similar conditions (different landlords), but have to pay 500 Baht more per month, because the property is a little bit bigger.
If you want to rent a house in the same area but include furniture, you should get it for about 10,000 Baht/month.

Take a motorbike and investigate the streets of town where you'd like to rent anything.
Many houses are free right now for acceptable or even cheap prices.
Contact-addresses for free accommodations are mostly written on a sign at the front door or gate.
Try to contact the landlord directly to prevent brokerages, which force up the monthly rent usually.
Keep in mind, that TH is a land of barter.

Normally I spend everything what I have, if I have 200 000 THB, maybe one month it's gone but I don't live in Thailand so maybe this is a wrong topic for me. But my opinion is that maybe 30 000 - 50 000 THB per month would be enough to me if I live all the time in Thailand (rent, motorbike, food and Visas etc...).
