Nice one, you just got arguably the best phone available for £200.Big Boy wrote:I've bought it
I think it is a good deal BB. I bought mine in the big electrical shop at the bottom of Soi 88. I paid 14000 baht for it. I then got the tax back at the airport. The prices are competative in HH. The electrical shop was better than MV as they were reluctant to give a tax receipt there in MV. You must make sure there is nothing wrong with it, if secondhand. I went to MV afterwards and bought a film to go over the screen to stop it scratching, also a case which covers the back. Well worth it. The girl in MV fitted the screen film for me, a real expert.Big Boy wrote:BaaBaa./SJ,
I've been offered a Samsung Galaxy S2 (brand new - still boxed) for £200. This is a genuine offer of a genuine product (I'm not going into details here) - not off the back of a lorry. Does this sound like a good deal please?
If I invested my hard earned cash, how easy would it be to get it up and running when I get to Thailand?
No, it's in the UK at the moment - still waiting to arrive from the suppliers.BaaBaa. wrote:Is the phone in Thailand?
I'm a complete mobile phone ignoramus (and tight git). I'm still happy using my £12 Nokia, which I've had for quite a few years. I'm on a very basic contract, which costs me about £3 per month. It just seems too much trouble to activate it for 6 to 8 weeks before I move to Thailand.BaaBaa. wrote:I'd start getting used to Android and getting some apps as soon as you get it BB.
I bought it last May, so may still be the same price. I think I got about £20 tax back in the airport. As you say they are over £400 in the UK. I use skype all the time with it.BaaBaa. wrote: 14000 baht still sounds cheap, S2 is £430 in UK.
That will work out at about £182 for one year...50p a day. You are almost there with the cost. Do you have to be tied into a contract for that?Big Boy wrote:That sounds reasonable - maybe I won't wait.
Skype now sell a small switching box (Freetalk) which when connected to your router and normal phone allows you to place calls through Skype without needing a laptop or mobile phone.Siani wrote:I bought it last May, so may still be the same price. I have a skype "Unlimited world" subscription which means I can phone Thailand etc for unlimited calls, chat for as long as you like.
As I'm moving to live in Thailand very soon, I don't want to get tied up with a contract.Siani wrote:That will work out at about £182 for one year...50p a day. You are almost there with the cost. Do you have to be tied into a contract for that?
if it were me I would buy one. I am with 3 mobile which means that other members in the family who have 3 also get free calls. I pay £15 a month for an add on package with them, I have never run out.
