Great response so far guys. Interesting that a few people have talked about having their food as if they were Thai. I wonder what the difference actually is and if the restaurant naturally assumes that I want my food farang way and puts less spice in it.
When I get papaya salad on the way to the beach they ask how many chilli. I always say about 3. Sometimes my ermmm friend has a salad but she never gets asked.
As for McD, KFC etc etc don't touch em here so definitely not going to travel 10,000 miles for the pleasure.
Nobody mentioned Moonsmile, too touristy or other places better

Yes this normally happens. Even if you tell them that you like it spicy you can still end up with very mild food. I'm beginning to wonder if, as a farrang, you actually get it spicier if you ask for 'pet nid noi' (a little spicy) than if you just ask for it 'pet'

Fair point d-t, I guess I need to do a bit more digging on the forum, instead of trying to take the lazy option, but thank you for the offer on specific advice that I can't locate, appreciated.

Good is subjective and relative to one's desires and expectations. Terrace 90 does what it does well, I understand why people praise it. To me it's like middle market business class hotel food in America was decades ago: aimed right at the middle of the majority's taste buds, eating habits, and expectations. One knew what was on the menu before walking into such a restaurant. Never had a bad meal in such a hotel, just as never had a bad one at Terrace 90. But I only go to T90 when social circumstances dictate because I'm the sort who used to drive past T.G.I. Friday's on my way to a Guatemalan place in a store front or the Vera Cruz style seafood restaurant in the same barrio.

Pepinos at petsakhem road, next to Villa Market, not cheap but great Italian food,
Philippes Petanque club, from European to Thai food plus great atmosphere
and not to forget Madame Green at Kao Takiab, for seafood.
The restaurant at Black mountain golfcourse for something special!!
I will be going there next week for sure.
I went to the Bamboo restaurant up near the airport on the coast side very good food nice people and pocket friendly.... only tried Thai but there are a bunch of other things on the menu
U tried the morning glory in tempura salad dish... the sauce is amazing - contains mince pork, squid, prawns, red onion, small green chillies (watch for these little buggers!) and other stuff I dont know, it really is one of the best things I have ever eaten!
Spicy seafood pasta is great too.. O and the sea bass fillet!

I haven't mate, It's my go to place when I fancy a steak as they're great for a decent price (you wouldn't think it was Thai beef) so haven't really sampled much else, everything always looks great though. I did try the Beef in Blackbean sauce, again, fantastic.
I'll give that tempura dish a go, sounds like something the GF would love.
But the few times I've been to the Hua Hin Vineyard with friends, I’ve always enjoyed the food, pleasant friendly staff and the winery setting.. (But can be more expensive than others mentioned on the post)
