For Thai, I think it is hard to beat Kaang Kao & Makam.

Makam is along the railway on the east side, south of the 102 railway crossing.
Kaang Kao is down a soi on the north side road to / from Kao Hin Lek Fai, that joins the bottom of the Pala-U Road.

Western, I can't say that I have found many I would go out of my way for though there's a few which do 'a decent job'. Anantasila in Kao Takiab is perhaps (in my experience) more consistent than most. In honesty, dietary restrictions drive some of that.

I have most certainly *not* been impressed with Golf Course dining in HH area, though I can't say my experience is comprehensive.

Thanks for that! A good list - quite a few places on there I didn't know about. Some ratings I disagree with, but that is what choice is all about anyway.

By the way JW, my old man assures me Rom Mai do a decent Fish and Chips for about 100 baht, not an evening meal belly full at that price but a good afternoon snack.

I'm sure you'll report back.

Does that place ROM MAi still exists? We wanted to try it this weekend but couldn't find it anywhere near Cicada.
Asked the tuk-tuks & locals around, nobody had ever heard about it...

It still exists. It's moved though and it's now quite well hidden. If you're coming from Hua Hin it's further into Khao Takieb. Don't quite remember where it is exactly, but will look for landmarks to help explain next time I'm down that way, if nobody else can help out first.

Thanks looking forward your info. Have you been there again after it moved & do you still recommend their food?

Yes. Same road, the one going to khao takiab. Heading south, it's .3 kilometers (300 yards to us Yanks) past where the center divider ends. It's next (south) to a shop with an eye-catching sign: Miss Nong's Famous English Pantry Pies.

Everyone says great things about Moon Smile, and it can be good, but the place next door (Na na) is better IMHO, nice choice of spice levels indicated on the menu, and very very tasty. Can anyone advise what happened to Kim's Kitchn, which I loved when I first came over, but recent meals have been so bland as to be tasteless. Maybe its to suit the scandinavian palate, i don't know.

Yes pity about Kims Kitchen the menu changed some time ago and we heard it had changed hands (for the worse) the breakfasts which had previously been good were very greasy and the evening food had gone down. had hoped it was only temporary but dont look like it. Incidently on the strip with Na Na and Moon Smile etc we def prefer Bam Bams for food and service - nice family place.

Just remembered another place that has not received a mention here. We had a few excellent/cheap meals at MOON SABAI which is just by Rays Place (Jazz). Always seemed to be a good mix of locals and ex pats and pretty busy. Had to be careful when ordering some of the offerings were more than a little spicy for the other half who does not like too spicy.

Went to Kim's once. The TGF (at the time) was quite unimpressed.

Rom Mai just past the southern car park for Ciccada - look for a huge silvery tree on the other side of the road, food great!
