I'm a huge fan of the Monty Python team but something seems to happen to entertainers when they have been in the business too long. I've seen it with Bruce Forsyth, Bob Monkhouse and others. At their peak they were (arguably) genuinely funny and/or entertaining but later their eyes are dead. Years of singing the same song would suck the life out of anyone. It was like being entertained by a corpse.
The corporate media were telling everyone you must conclude it was 'magical', 'the best ever' and so on. If you want to regurgitate the programming, be my guest. But what on earth must a global audience have really thought of it? When the Spice Girls are considered the stars of the show you know how dire it was.
They could at least have wrapped a bit of tinsel around the Zimmer frame. What does it cost? 3.99 at Woolies?..
