Old Stagers that need to be put out to pasture

Post by MrPlum »

After cringing at Eric Idle's performance at the Olympics, I took a look at some other old stagers and sorry but nostalgia can only take you so far. Is the celeb culture so lacking in talent we have to keep relying on grandad? These coffin-dodgers are already embalmed.

After the Olympic Closing Ceremony I think Ray Davis and Roger Daltery can be added to the above list!

I thought the whole sketch with Eric Idle was funny! Its not as if he takes himself seriously. I thought Lennon and Mercury did well!

I'm a huge fan of the Monty Python team but something seems to happen to entertainers when they have been in the business too long. I've seen it with Bruce Forsyth, Bob Monkhouse and others. At their peak they were (arguably) genuinely funny and/or entertaining but later their eyes are dead. Years of singing the same song would suck the life out of anyone. It was like being entertained by a corpse.

The corporate media were telling everyone you must conclude it was 'magical', 'the best ever' and so on. If you want to regurgitate the programming, be my guest. But what on earth must a global audience have really thought of it? When the Spice Girls are considered the stars of the show you know how dire it was.

They could at least have wrapped a bit of tinsel around the Zimmer frame. What does it cost? 3.99 at Woolies?..

I didn't comment on the overall show, just Mr. Idle, know what I mean, nudge nudge!

I commented at the time on how well Lennon and Mercury sang - their voices really have stood the test of time and have changed very little! I did think Queen should have sung We Are the Champions though, it would have been very fitting!

I still haven't seen the Who, because before stuff was handed over to Brazil, the guy from the beeb said words to the effect of, 'thats it as far as the Brit music show goes' so I went to bed! I have it recorded so will check them out, can't understand why someone else performed Pinball Wizard, albeit a great interpretation.

:agree: That would be a nice gesture to all the athlete and every involved in the 2012 olympics.
