Now you know why I moved away from owning a Ford. It was a great car, but the service just wasn't up to par.
They are ordering from Bangkok because Ford Sales and Service is the only place you can get the spares. They also supply spares to the dealerships. If they get annoyed with the dealership for some reason, they stop supply of spares. Full stop.
When I bought my Ford, there were two main players. One was the Yontrakit group, who brought in the European (Escort, Mondeo, Sierra) models. The other was the New Era group, and they brought in the Japanese and Korean models (Laser, Festiva, Aspire).
Niggles:
* I bought an Escort, but couldn't get it serviced at the New Era Ford just down the road from my place because they didn't do European models.
* if I went in on a Saturday to get a service done it makes sense as it is my day off. It is also usually one of the busiest days at the dealership. If, however they ran short of spares, they could not order part because Ford Sales only worked a five day week.(It may have changed by now)
I would then face to possibility of not having a car till the following week.
* Had a run-in with a pothole that damaged two mags up past Nakorn Sawan. Could not get a spare wheel (either steel or aluminium) for love or money as the PCD (pitch circle diameter) of the wheel was not a standard Japanese one. Had to borrow a pickup, drive to Bangkok, practically beg for one rim from Ford Sales personally, then drive all the way back to fit it on the car.
* When the dealership had a falling out with the main supplier, spares dried up. It was around this time that I threw in the towel and got a different brand of car. Sad, because I quite liked the Ford and it did drive well.
Hope it doesn't happen to you, but from the sounds of it the dealership may not have been able to order spares until the had an actual car to order it for.

So much for computerisation.
It could also just be plain incompetence.
