The Royal Thai Navy welcomed Their Majesties the King and Queen to Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan province with a 21-gun salute yesterday.

The salute, each round five seconds apart, was fired from HTMS Pin Klao just about a kilometre off the coast, the ship's captain Commander Prasobchai Yoosamran said, adding that this was the biggest honour for him and a proud moment for his crew.

Their Majesties reportedly watched the gun salute from inside Klai Kangwon Palace, where they arrived yesterday for an extended break.

After the salute was completed, the vessel returned to its docking station near the Piam Suk pavilion inside the palace compound to continue with its duties as guard of honour. HTMS Pin Klao, which is officially the royal gun-salute ship, performed 10 drills before yesterday's official ceremony, Prasobchai said.

Shame really, I'd have liked to have watched, but we didn't know it was planned.

I'm guessing this means the 800m track around the palace lake is now closed to the public. Can anyone confirm?

The track is still open to the public, although when I drove past on Friday, it did look like quite a few more people have taken jogging. I even saw quite a few people jogging in the morning on my way to drop the kids off at school.

It used to be open in the past when HM was in residence but I don't know what the situation is now. I used to like that large old elephant that lived in the grounds but apparently they moved it somewhere else.

Is there any noticeable difference in HH in general. More cops? more army? more Thai visitors? More traffic?

Yes to all of the above - was there this weekend and got stopped by cops 3 times in the same morning (most of them just wanted to have a look at the bike though!)
