Medical cock ups happen all over the world not just in Thailand. I'm sure we are all aware of some disasters that took place in our home countries.

The most severe pain I have ever endured was not at the scene of my car-smash, but after coming out of theatre at HH hospital after having my broken leg pinned..amesthetic had worn off & they left it a full hour or more before letting me have some morphine. :( :( :(
But to the Thai hospital staff this is no big deal..I'm sure their policy is..hey Mr, you've had your leg pinned..of course it's gonna damn-well hurt.

Yes, and it stated 'corrective' surgery, which I can only assume that it was possibly to cover a scar or birthmark??

Whatever it was, it's certainly a sad little tale.

According to this thai newspaper, the clinic had no problem in 10 years since opening.
The young lady came first time to have a liposuction (do not say when it was).
One week ago, she had silicon injections in the back / hips.
Then she came again to have some excess of silicon removed, and died...
24 years old, really sorry for her !

Sure - we're always warned that there is a certain risk when undergoing any procedure involving anaesthetics and I wouldn't be surprised if that is what has happened - just an otherwise ordinary bad reaction to the anaesthetic. Sad, but unremarkable.

The clinic was supposedly a liposuction unit, according to some media I saw, but I wouldn't be at all surprised that something on the back, being cosmetic, turned out to be large scale tattoo removal.

As for Thailand - well, price, price, price! Decades ago, Germans flooded to Hungary because of the much cheaper dental surgery costs there. Of course the media was full of horror stories (in one case about supposedly large numbers of dentists who had only ever received training on pigs heads! ). It is meat and drink to the 'red top / shock jock' instincts of media around the world. In this case, it is another stick to beat Thailand with - not that it doesn't deserve the beating, and there's plenty of sticks!

Edit - Ok, scratch the bit about tattoos, ^^
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

Apparently the doctor carrying out the surgery wasn't qualified to do so, he was only registered as a GP, also this happened at 23:30 in the evening which seems a strange time for a clinic to be carrying out operations of any type.

However, to come from a 1st world to a still 3rd world (regardless of what is published), and go to a clinic rather than a one of the major hospitals is folly.

Couldn't she get the same done in the UK for free under your UK hospital/care system?

Why come here...what reason...why take the risk?
:agree:
Thailand has definitely put the horse before the cart when it comes to 'medical tourism'.
and 24 years old is a very young age to die, sad.

The major hospital particularly b'grad have donea good job with medical tourists. BKK has a worldwide reputation, so these cowboys hitch a ride on this reputation and do shoddy work.
