Yes, it must be age.

You may chuckle at this but it's a damn good idea as a replacement for plastic cutlery. If you don't want to eat it, just throw it away as made from grain and will be gone in days if not hours if wildlife find it.

Is today some type of "plastic bag free day" in Thailand? Utter turmoil in BigC where I shop in Bangkok this morning.
The girl offered a cardboard box, and then snuck a couple of small bags out from under the counter.

Next went to Villa Market and my goods were put into a big brown paper bag. Nothing against doing away with plastic bags, but it would be good to know beforehand if they are banned. :?

There has been massive exposure about the dangers of plastic. Only recently, a pregnant sperm whale was found dead. It's foetus had died along with it's mother and 24 kg of plastic found in it's gut.

Why would you need a day by day warning when a store is not going to issue plastic bags. Take the bull by the horns and take responsibility yourself. It's not rocket science.
I always have a couple of re-usable bags in my motorbikes and my car. Except for wet produce which unfortunately are still sold in plastic, I don't think I've taken a 'single use' plastic bag in 2 years. It's not a problem!

Just to add, apart from wet produce, has Makro EVER issued plastic bags. It's certainly not hurt their trade.
Why not just assume every store is the same as Makro then you're always prepared.

Makro sell quite large and very strong fabric bags at 99 Baht - they look as though they will last many years

Give it a year or so and you'll only be able to get plastic bags in Seven-11's between 11am and 2pm ... :duck:

Because Makro is not in the family consumer market! They are primarily a bulk product supplier.

Firstly, read the frigging post! I asked if it was some special day today.

Secondly, it is NOT the plastic shopping bags that are the major problem per se, it is the continuous use of small plastic bags for ready to eat food and drinks, in most cases made from much thicker plastic, that need to be banned.

And lastly, you do not know if I usually take my own bags or not! :butt:

You answered that here:

A little more than asking if it's a special day if you're then going to complain about 'no warning'
Because Makro is not in the family consumer market!
I agree that they sell many things in bulk. However, it very much caters for the family as is evidenced by many customers there. Have a look around the next time you're there.
Secondly, it is NOT the plastic shopping bags that are the major problem per se, it is the continuous use of small plastic bags for ready to eat food and drinks, in most cases made from much thicker plastic, that need to be banned.
Not true. But you can look at the facts yourself without me pointing you to them.

Ok, thank you. Something like this was posted awhile ago, but it has never happened. :thumb:

Yes, remembered in the back of my mind Big C was having a 'plastic free' day on the 4th, which is today. I usually cycle to my mini Big C for my evening beer and typically forgo the offered plastic bag as there is a basket on the front.
The locals, however, seem to feel unclothed if they are caught clutching any form of merchandise that is not enclosed in said plastic bag. But I digress.
So that is probably why the checkout at Foodland had these cardboard cartons for my shopping just now..
Don't see why they just can't go back to brown paper bags..

We bought a couple of donuts yesterday. They put then in a brown paper bag. And then... you can guess.
