6 out of 4 acknowledge Scotland would be better off alone without England
6 out of 4? One too many Chang?

Are you sure they are saying Scotland would be better off? The way I've read the postings on this thread I get the feeling they are saying give Scotland their independance, and remove the burden on England.

Lets face it - without Scotland England would become a third world nation.

Why? What exactly does Scotland bring to the party that is so important?

I've often been sent North of the Border to educate the Scots, I've never known a time when they've had to come South to educate me.

What has England got to offer the world? A tin mine in cornwall? Lies about house prices pretending everyones well off? Products produced = zilch. Exports = ignorant alcohol induced horrible people. Humour (we have to explain it to them). Why do I bother? England = 70 million population, Scotland = 5 and we'll still give you a good pummeling.

So I guess that you have nothing at all to bring to the party then.

Jockey,

Do you want this to be a debate or a rant?

One of the biggest problems that will face an "independent" Scotland a la Jersey et al, will be, how do you retain your talent? The grass will be greener elsewhere - and no nits!

But I'm all for it - on negotiated terms, with my country having the bigger clout, because we have.

Stop mentioning the past, as I for one, ain't apologising any more even if we should be in the first place.

You want it, have it, on face value.

Take it or leave it.

I'm half Scots by parentage (my mother & all of her family are Scots & all live in Scotland, apart from her) and I'm Scots by birth (born in Aberdeen). all I can say is, I couldn't give two figs about this one way or another. Why should I? I live in LoS now. I'll never go back there to live, even if the wheel comes off for me here. So, I really don't care either way.
I actually don't think that Scotland will do all that well on their own, but I could be wrong. I'm sure subsidies will be in place to help out...

As for the title of this thread, Wales & Northern Ireland too? Yeah, right. Something tells me NI will either stay with UK or go back to Eire. I can't see them even wanting to be an independent state/nation. And Wales? Plaid Cymru's dream come true? Interesting thought :? :P

Jockey, you really need to stop taking this so seriously. The sassenachs on this board were not personally responsible for Butcher Cumberland, the putdown of the Jacobite Rebellion, the banning of wearing the tartan, the battle of Culloden or the subsequent massacres or the exile of Bonnie Prince Charlie (an arrogant fop, more French than Scots who would have done a lot better listening to his advisors than running off half-cocked further into England where he had no support!) And, yes, I'm aware the banning of the tartan & weapons etc came after 1746. None of these guys are that old! Honest!

Good one, Jockey. By starting this so early, I really thought you were serious. OK, you got me! :thumb:

Jockey,

Well done, however most of my responses were also made mainly in wind-up mode. Don't forget though, many a true word is spoken in jest.

I just wonder how much was down to Apr 1, and how much was wishful thinking - on all parts

Well, if it was a wind up, it was a very topical one, with lots of articles debating the same question, in view of the SNP (got the name now) expected to be the largest party represented in the Scottish parliment.
