Not sure I’m quite as pessimistic as you are Pete, especially in regards of a vaccine being developed. Ok so we know that there’s a lot of positive talk about one being developed by the end of 2020, but there’s a fair degree of hype associated with that, but hopefully a vaccine will become available during 2021

Can’t disagree though with the impact on schooling - hopefully the younger ones will have time to catch up but those nearing or already at their examination times, we’ve already seen the fiasco in the UK which is no doubt somewhat similar in a lot of countries.

Would we have been better exposing ourselves to the virus - I’m not sure, but we are where we are so it’s a case of looking forward and keeping our

There's one thing we can say with surety I believe, and that's we're lucky to be in the country we are in. I until quite recently was very skeptical of the numbers the Thai Gov was putting out and if a cover-up was in place. I feel comfortable now that so far Thailand has dodged a bullet, and long may it continue. So, we have relative freedom to do what we want here and go where we want to go, even though in some places Thais may panic at the sight of a western face and make the experience unpleasant.

Much of my frustration comes from the inability of seeing my US based kids and grandkids, and their inability to come here. Again, if you're over 65, and even more so if over 70, the importance of seeing children and grandchildren takes on an urgency.

HHTel jokingly complains about months with his grandkids, but he is a lucky man indeed and will surely miss them when they are gone. :D He's establishing a bond with those kids that will never be broken.

That's so very true, Pete. As she has now contracted covid, I doubt that she'll escape from the US during September as she thought. So it's going to be more weeks followed by quarantine when she does eventually arrive home.
I do worry about the bond between her and her own kids, especially the younger one. Even if she gets back by the end of October, it'll have been 8 months away from her children. That's a very long time in a 2 - 3 year old.

^ a "lost generation" after six months that is going to completely ruin "their ability to enter into a productive life in society". Sounds dramatic . . . and silly.

I predicted to the family this morning that my bones are telling me that after New Year we will begin to slide right back into the lockdown/school closed etc., that we were in last Spring, well before any vaccine arrives. I hope I'm wrong but my predictions are usually better than 50%. :( Seeing the creeping infections up north and in Bangkok make me nervous.

I'm happy to say though that we as a family haven't changed anything concerning masks, hand gel, distancing when out, alcohol spray arriving parcels and letting them sit for a day or so etc. The daughter's school hasn't changed any procedures since they re-opened from the last Covid closing which is good as the kids are in full sync with what they have to do while there. It's second nature for them now.

A shame that isn't the situation in the west. I've noticed my 3 year old granddaughter when going out, puts on her shoes and mask without any prompting. She'll probably grow up thinking it's normal attire!!

On my last two visits to Market Village I've noticed a marked increase in the local population and 'farangs" have taken to wearing their masks as "chin diapers" :cuss:

I forgot to wear my mask the other day, and of course I was refused entry. Totally my own stupid fault, and I returned to my car to get it without any hesitation. However, earlier that morning, Market Village posted this OFFICIAL video.

It beggars belief. They're employing somebody to check, but what exactly are they checking?

I've been waved through in the last few weeks, no sign in and the most feeble attempt at a temperature check.

Theyre getting sick of it

In MV yesterday. I was wearing a mask but the guy at the main entrance just waved me in without getting up from his chair.

If the state is telling them there is no Covid here, then the general attitude is 'why bother with all this malarkey'. Thai schooling teaches to obey and follow, not to question and think for yourself - 'maybe we should keep these precautions up just in case'.

Can one of the clever (Thai reading) people tell me what this is about please?

https://www.banmuang.co.th/news/region/ ... X73lWmpdRY

I've read the translation, and overall, it gives me a warm feeling, but I see phrases such as:
For measures to control foreigners, aliens and those at risk in the Hua Hin city area
for Hua Hin City, it will create a QR Code “Hua Hin Won” to allow officials to survey vulnerable people in various areas in the Hua Hin Municipality
As I said, overall, I get a good feeling, but am I about to put into a Big Brother monitoring system?
