And that's because the German's are throwing away their automotive industry by not keeping up with the times and delaying the inevitable isn't going to help them at all.
To be fair, Volkswagen have seen the light and are trying regain lost ground but the rest of them are struggling.

The Germans aren't doing this:
The 2023 BYD Han EV launched for 30,400 USD and received 5,000 orders in 4 hours

To be honest, Germany has always put it's own interests above the EU when needed and it doesn't matter who suffers, whether it be the Irish or Greeks. And they are doing nothing different here, throwing the whole of the EU's plans on future sustainaibility out of the window. If others suffer or prosper, just so long as they protect their own, so be it.

It won't work, I spend my working life in a prosperous European country and a lot of those drives that used to have Mercedes, BMWs or Audis on them are now occupied by Teslas and other EVs.
I saw a Tesla Y in Hua Hin today and it looked awesome, OK, that's a 2 million odd baht car but so are all those black Mercedes that you see in Thailand and the Tesla looked better.

Tesla vs. Mercedes: The Bottom Line as per an article from the “CoPilot” website

The choice between a Mercedes and a Tesla is not an easy one, especially when you stack their electric vehicles side-by-side. Tesla delivers sporty performance and software, and Mercedes provides unparalleled comfort and new technology.

Ultimately, we think that Mercedes is better suited for car enthusiasts who either want to enjoy the best a gas engine can provide on the road or have a taste for luxury and class. Tesla cars are better for tech enthusiasts—people who are passionate about green energy and are looking for something different.

This is a UK specific article, but highlights one of the serious issues regarding second hand EV cars, where prices are falling greater than ICE cars.

Another UK based article (sorry if this offends any of our members), but this highlights some of the issues of living with an EV (not any old EV but a £100k+ BMX iX). There’s a lot of good points as well as some bad!!

As it’s been rather quiet on the Forum these past couple of days, I thought I’d try to get some attention from our EV supporters. I’m not against them at all, but certainly in the UK, what ought to be a relatively easy journey can turn into a nightmare!!

I've had a nightmare journey in a petrol car when the fuel filter clogged but it never made it to the newspapers!

Even allowing for this being in the Sun, I suspect that this type of incident is more common than fuel filters getting clogged!!
