The last time a London bus turned up on time in a foreign country was in 1962 when Sir Cliff and his mates drove to Greece.

I try to avoid late night buses.
Not seen too many superstars on them.

Kind of looking foward to it - it should bring a little humility to the event, without the superpower mania choreographed 'aren't we really the superpower we promised to be' kind of thing.

Mechanical show with power and movement but not much finesse or artistry, for this spectator at least.

I hope London takes it back to the basics, it should be a people thing, not a power thing.

I was living in Sydney at time of the 2000 Games and it was an absolute blast. If it is anywhere near as good as that was, it will be great.

I did not go to see any of the games, but the atmosphere in the city and all of the improvements that happened in and around the city, Sydney are still benefiting from.

Still after the Olympics the City is still having new facilities being produced and improvements being carried out, so if the same happens to London it will only be beneficial in the long run.

In answer to public transport. Sydney's public transport never runs on time even before and after the games, but for the four weeks of the games there was not a problem, all went well. All staff holidays canceled etc to make sure that all run on time.

I am sure it will be a blast in 4 years time and hope that everyone gets behind it to make it a games to remember.

Government juggling with figures. Most of that budget would have to be spent anyway. The overall net effect of hosting the Olympics must be favorable to the host nation if they can afford the initial investment.

9BN is what a large British corporate would submit as taxable profit for good year or one month's UK disposable income.

Hopefully we won't see London Olympics, 2012 Olympics, next Olympics and every other permutation added as threads.

Boris Johnson has no dignity at all, what a slob he looked with his jacket open, hands in pockets. It does not bode well for these games with this colonial buffoon at the helm.

With regard to the British 8 minute segment in the handover, it was crap. A double decker bus, Beckham and Leona Lewis. Or was it a failed transport system, a past it footballer and a winner of the crappy X Factor?

Let's face it modern U.K. culture is a disgrace. What are we going to see at the opening ceremony? Some warped vision of Britain as seen by a member of our cultural elite (i.e. the London organizers, the BBC, etc). A crappy, celeb obsessed, Equalities-derived vision of 'normal' people that normal people wouldn't recognize. A celebration of Smut, Street Crime and Graffiti? Can't wait.

So what might we see?

I don't think the UK is looking at China as an example, Sydney keeps being mentioned for the reasons Chelsea stated. A lot of the feedback about the recent games is how well organised everything was blah, blah, blah - but where was the spirit? But how can there be when everything is so controlled?

I quite like Boris Johnson and he pulled the plug on a lot of Livingstones plans for China, including retinues, saying it was a waste of money.
