357 checkpoints monitoring travellers nationwide
The Royal Thai Armed Forces command has set up seven checkpoints in Bangkok and 350 more in other provinces to check inter-provincial travellers and help contain the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The announcement said the checkpoints were in response to the prime minister tasking the command with supervising security measures relating to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The checkpoints are being manned by soldiers, police and civil servants who check travellers for symptoms of Covid-19 and behaviour leading to risk of Covid-19 transmission, the annuncement said.

The people at risk of infection or transmission would be kept at appropriate locations, it said.

"Measures will be implemented only when it is necessary, to minimise the impact on the everyday life," it said.

Children under five and adults above the age of 70 and those with underlying health problems are strongly recommended to stay home.

DEPUTY PM SAYS NO PLAN TO IMPOSE CURFEW OVER VIRUS – YET
The Thai government has no plans as yet to impose a curfew to curb the spread of COVID-19, but will strictly enforce restrictions on travel and gatherings as the state of emergency takes effect after midnight of Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Wednesday.

“However, the government will not rule out the possibility of a curfew being declared if the ongoing efforts to fight COVID-19 fails,” warned Wissanu.

The deputy prime minister said that initial restrictions issued under the state of emergency decree include a ban on non-Thais travelling into Thailand; however, there are a few exceptions for Bangkok-based diplomats who need to return to Thailand from overseas trips and pilots and flight attendants of airlines that still operate.

Whilst very sensible, it is the first mention I've heard of:

Persons over 70 years of age or with a history of illness as well as children under five years of age are banned from going outside

Maybe I've been living under a rock, and it's common knowledge, but if not please think of friends/neighbours who may now be imprisoned in their own homes. They will need help. I know there is the community support group, but I'm sure they'd rather see a face they know.

There's a conflict of information. The Enquirer link says as Sateeb stated, "Persons over 70 years of age or with a history of illness as well as children under five years of age are banned from going outside".

This is Thailand and sensible doesn't always prevail. Be aware the severe penalties for making the wrong choice.

According to the Thai text that I found it is currently a recommendation ("should stay home"). It may change though in later updates. Even then it may not be absolute if it's necessary to go out.

Uks daily death figures dropped from the 70s to the 40s yesterday. Gave us a little false hope that the stringent measures in place were making a difference and 'flattening the curve'.

Yesterday's figure in the 40s has over doubled into the 100s today. During countries 'peaks', deaths are assumed to double every 2 days.

We done it in the last 24 hours.

Edit: yesterday's figures, 47(?) down from the 70s. Today's death tally - 117 (almost triple the normal flu death rate).

We're entering our bullshit month.

Our curve is following everyone else's. Once you hit that certain number, 100+ of infections, then you just gotta self-isolate and ride the wave.

Not looking forward to Italy and Spain figures... but it's in the post.

I thank my lucky stars I'm in London tbh. Things will get done - in the spirit of the British people. We will be fine.

Good luck to expats, and I mean that, good luck! Stay safe. Don't piss off the authorities. Self isolate. Wear protective gear (before u post Uncle Tom, this ain't nightcrawlers) and abide by the rules.

Coronavirus: US overtakes China with most cases

The US now has more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other country with at least 82,404 positive tests.

According to the latest figures collated by Johns Hopkins University, the US overtook China (81,782 cases) and Italy (80,589).

The grim milestone came as President Donald Trump predicted the nation would get back to work "pretty quickly", after 3.3 million layoffs.

More than 1,100 people with Covid-19 have died in the US.

What did President Trump say?
At a White House briefing on Thursday afternoon, Mr Trump said: "They have to go back to work, our country has to go back, our country is based on that and I think it's going to happen pretty quickly.(Clueless cock!!)

In true Thai fashion, we have 2 statements that contradict themselves i.e.

Persons over 70 years of age or with a history of illness as well as children under five years of age are banned from going outside

and

Children under five and adults above the age of 70 and those with underlying health problems are strongly recommended to stay home.

Logic and common sense tell me the former is the correct statement, but this is Thailand, so either could be correct.

Does anybody know which is correct please? Do you have a definitive source of information?

I need to know because I am now 1 day into total isolation, but before that Mrs BB and I had started a daily 'no risk' walking regime in an area where we had passed 2 other 'masked up' people in the previous 4 days. We would love to continue with our walks, but with roadblocks and the high penalties for breaking the rules we are still working with the first statement.
