Re: Paying for everything with cash only?

Ya you are right TIGR. All the financial machinations you go thru sound a lot like a job! After years on this forum and 2- 3 week visits, books on retirement there, study of the language (reading, speaking and writing)for 3 years, exploration of the biggest cities and diving both coasts, getting 2 t...

Re: Paying for everything with cash only?

Never use cash here for ANYTHING, not even food. My question was not to annoy but find out the best way to pay bills there considering the fees for ATM cash, bank transfers etc. Some foreign banks won't accept american accounts because of the US government's reporting requirements they don't want to...

Re: SCUBA Diving jobs

As for diving Phuket has much better diving and many more diveboats and operations. You'd likely do better there. Gulf diving not good. PHi Phi has an operation I believe as well.

Paying for everything with cash only?

Hi all Been reading this with interest about cost of living and visa requirements and all recommend leaving funds at home and drawing cash. When I was there few took credit cards as well. Do you pay EVERYTHING in cash like rent, utilities etc. How does that work. Here we can pay online or have autom...

Starting an online business

As a potential immigrant I would like to know if the Thai gov't blocks websites and allows internet business activity such as an online business if you have a retiree visa. I am considering an online business but am unsure it is viable there.
Thanx for any info

Re: Why Thailand???

Interesting comments and an adjunct to my earlier post "Why are you there". I STILL haven't seen a major factor that attracts expats to LOS. Is it climate first, a semi-democratic monarchy, physical beauty, cost of living etc. OR...? My first interest was the cost of living on a fixed pens...

Re: Hua Hin/Thailand: why are you there?

Have continued reading all the excellent opinions from all thru the spectrum and my hope is renewed altho' not necessarily for HH. Actually I like Phuket better as the beaches have waves and good scuba diving. Dived the gulf and found few fish and murky water. Special thanx to Takiap and Tigr for pe...

Re: Hua Hin/Thailand: why are you there?

Special thanx to Tiger for his comprehensive reply! I was initially put off from HH as "retirable" because of the high cost of 120K Baht, more than I pay here in L.A. for a 2 bed apt. a 15 min. walk from the beach. My total expenses here are $2500USD per month. As single I figured half of ...

Re: Cost of living in Hua Hin

At the latest rate of exchange of 32 Baht per US dollar, 120k Baht is over $3700 per mo. cost of living! That is a LOT more than I pay now in a big city. My idea was to retire there on a fixed pension and live well. Doesn't look like that can happen there.
NUTS!

Hua Hin/Thailand: why are you there?

 I have been reading this forum off and on since 2008 trying to glean info that I need to decide if I want to retire there. So far most of what I read is complaints, complaints about the bad, unreliable water, unreliable internet and electric power, awful traffic, theft of packages in the slow ...

Re: EMS delivery didnt arrive - what next ?

Can any of the billing troubles be alleviated by online payments? I know you can get many US tax forms online but not likely a W2. Does TOT,3bb have online billpay? Perhaps any parcel out of the country could be sent directly to the recipient from EBay,Amazon etc. instead of buying and sending it fr...

Re: Dirty municipal water

Thanx to all for your responses. I was hoping to get someone who has lived in or is living in Phuket. I have been to LOS twice for a total of 6 weeks. I've been to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hua Hin and Prachuab Kiri Khan (beautiful but no English spoken). But of course as a tourist there were nev...

Re: Dirty municipal water

I have read on this forum about water shortages in HH and now this. Are there similar problems in other parts? Are there any participants from other than HH here? I am trying to retire in Thailand but so far between water problems, terrible HH traffic ( I've been there) and internet problems I've re...
